17 Hornet Decapping

Just recently acquired a 17 Hornet and getting set up to reload.
I have always used a RCBS de capping die to save wear and tear on the regular die set.
Made it a separate operation to deprime and then throw them in to the cleaner.
Found out the RCBS die is too large to use.
Does anybody make a die that will work on the little Hornet.
Didn't notice that the RCBS version I have is for .27-.45.
Kinda new to this smallbore reloading , always did 30 caliber and up rifle and 44-45 pistol also.

I had one a while ago (sale I regretted) and used the standard die set - you can always clean after sizing. I guess. BTW, CFE BLK will duplicate the factory load quite nicely - 12.8g from memory.

Otherwise - Redding do have a 17 -20 cal rod available for their decapping die.

Lee has a decapping only die, and 17 caliber rods.

Just buy a few extra in case, but I've never needed to switch back to the standard size anyways after swapping in the 17 caliber one.

You'll need a 17 cal. cleaning rod too, if you don't already have it, and possibly a smaller powder funnel.

It's fun moving over to basically the smallest , still normal, caliber. Nothing you already have works :_)

I've been using a Redding, use it for 20 and 17 caliber calibers. The kit I have says "Universal Decapping Kit, LG&SM Dies W/ 69250 Rod" 69500

I already have two Pro Shot cleaning rods , patches and brushs.
And a Satern funnel , primers and 2 lbs of CFE Black to get started with.
Thanks for the heads up on the Lee and Reading dies, I will look into those.

My decapping die for 22K hornet kept busting up the brass so I drilled a shallow divot/hole in a piece of walnut that was the size of the rim to set in, and centered another hole inside that one a little bigger than the size of a primer, all the way thru. I place that on two pieces of 2x4 separated by a few inches, leaving room for a punched out primer to fall. I use a light hammer and an old Lee hammer driven decapper to punch out primers. Works like a charm. I would expect that a thinner rod with a decap pin epoxied in the end would replace my Lee decapper rod for a 17H. Slow, but cheap.
