17 Hornet best rifle

I dunno.. I bought a CZ Varmint. Love it. I looked at a few others. Savage, hate the B-mag deal and wimpy stock.. Ruger, I have one in 22 Hornet. Spent $200 getting it to shoot. 2 piece bolt is a maybe, maybe not deal. I believe there is also a single shot made by someone..

Who makes best & most accurate 17Hornet rifle .

The only 17 Hornets I've been around are the two CZ 527 Varmint model 17 Hornets I have, but, I will say these little CZ 527 Varmint 17 Hornets are some of the nicest and most accurate factory guns, shooting factory ammo, I've ever owned.

The trigger in the 527's is generally pretty good right out of the box and is fully adjustable. I changed the spring in all of my CZ 527's and they all break crisp, between 10-12 ounces. I don't even bother with the set trigger.

About the only negative the CZ 527 17 Hornets have is they could feed a little better. My first one fed just kind of ehh, through the magazine, so I polished the bejeezus out of the feed lips with Flitz and a buffing wheel on my Dremel, that helped quite a bit. It's not perfect, but definitely better than it was out of the box. I recently bought another one a few weeks ago, it seems to feed through the magazine better and I haven't done anything to it yet. From some of the stuff I've read about the other Hornets, none of them feed like butter.

as many have said - the 527 Varmint is wonderful. I have on here that I am shooting less and less these days. If you're in the market shoot me a PM. I have rings already on it which is more than 2/3 of the battle in terms of getting it in the field. Took me forever to find rings for it.

Leupold and Warne make CZ 527 rings in both 1in. and 30mm tube size as well as in different heights.

My vote is for the CZ 527 American. Sporter barrel acts like a heavy barrel with that tiny .17 cal hole. No need for more weight and the 21.6” barrel burns all the fast pistol powder completely, leaving little to no velocity on the table.

Actually IMO the hot set up is a DIP rail and Warne rings..

I used a DIP Inc rail on one of my 527's but I should have gone with Warne Low rings instead of medium height rings because the scope is a little higher than I'd like it to be. One of my 17 Hornets has Leupold medium rings with no rail and it sits nice and low. The other 17 Hornet I just got has a 42mm objective and with Warne med. rings with no rail and it sits down low too. Don't have a pic of that one yet.IMG_1056.jpg 17HH.png

I have the Ruger...
Trigger was made to be tolerable.

Feeds beautifully, shoots about half moa.

Feels “tougher” than a cz to me.

I have the CZ-527, the first factory gun I had bought in many years. it was pretty accurate about 3/8 to 1/2" moa, but I ended up sending it to a gunsmith named Allan Elliott in Arizona, where he installed a 1-9" Lilja 4-groove barrel. I then pillar bedded on a new H.S. Precision graphite stock and it shoots like a miniature bench-rest rig. (shot a .122" 5-shot group) Awesome! If to do over, I'd see if I could find a good deal on a used one that someone didn't like - then do these upgrades if it doesn't shoot.

Can't comment on the other manufacturers; but mine is a CZ527 Varmint model. It was one of the first in that caliber to hit these shores. It shoots in the teens with factory ammo.

I have a CZ 527 in the 17 hornet, I have also had a Copper as well, they are very nice, But at 3 to 4 times the price, the little you "might" gain, I feel it's not worth it whatsoever, unless that's what you feel you need, get the CZ, mine shoots an easy 1/2 moa with hornady 20gr. Vmax, and don't look back

Ill chime in with accolades for the CZ rifles, bought a few of each the American model and the varmint when they first came out. I kept one of each, and had a couple family members claim a couple of the others. Mine both shoot very well without a whole lot of work, did a little smooth sanding inside the stock and barrel channel, and now factory 20 gr ammo is sub .5 moa and hand loads close that down into the 3's without much work. My varmint shoots a tiny bit better, but, the American model is no slouch either, as said above, the sporter barrel is still plenty heavy with such a small diameter. I found them to both have some occasional feeding issues, but as described above also, some flitz and a buffer works wonders, don't give up too soon, it seems to take longer than i thought it should. Its rare now to have any issues. Mine are both first generation and have the higher bolt knob, so i have to run rings a bit higher than i would like, but, that's not a big inconvenience, virtually no recoil to worry about comb kisses. Enough accolades for the CZ. I have a Ruger that shoots ok at best. Factory ammo is within an inch, but handloads only yield mid 6 range. I have always wanted a cooper in ackley hornet, but find it hard to part with the $$ for the potential small gain when both my cz's are shooters already. My lengthy .02 worth.
