17 fireball

I am having a old 17 rem rebuilt to a 17 fireball.. To shoot 20 or 25 grainers would you get a 8 or 9 twist barrel

A 9 twist is plenty fast enough. A 10 twist is fine too. I've had several 10' twist MachIV's and they've all been very accurate with 25gr bullets. Also make sure the chamber has 0 freebore.

i have a factory 17 fireball i'm not sure what the twist is but it shoots berger 30 grainers real well.

I have a number of the mid size 17's and were it me I'd do the 1 in 9, Pac-Nor Super Match 3 groove stainless while I'm at it if that's ok to say. Add a little insurance to that 25 grain V-Max or possibly something in a 30 grainer? Good fur bullets.
The 25 grain V-Max is an outstanding bullet for fur and rodents but it's a bit long for weight. With that in mind some of the 1 in 10's don't seem to love it much but 3 of mine do so go figure. A Smith I trust told me my high altitude has a lot to do with my 1 in 10's handling that bullet well,near a mile high).
Should be fun whatever, love those .17's.
