17 fireball savage

just taken delivery of a 17fb on a savage short action with a pac-nor 26"bbl do i need all of that or will 22" do the job.its a bit ungainly for a varmint rifle.

Howdy
Just finished having a CZ 527 in .221 rebarreled with an E.R.Shaw .17 Fireball, the 24" barrel with 25gr V-max is here to stay !

Wiskers

well i dont know now about chopping the bbl,im shooting 25 berger match bullets with 17.6gns-n133 and it shoots in the 2s[3 shots]and 5 shots will go into 4s/5s @100yds.
messed about with 25 vmaxs and shot 10 shots at a 1/4 steel plate@150 yds and only got 2 holes in a figure 8 for 3/4in.this gun really shoots and no fouling even after 30 shots.it really is a fun gun to shoot.

That case only uses about 18-19gr powder and it doesn't need a real long barrel. I have MIV barrels from 22" to 24" and anything like that is fine. They all shoot well. Most important would be to have the length where it balances well and handles easily.

My 14-221 Walker has a 28-inch barrel.

Works fine.

Needed a custom cleaning rod anyway so its length wasn't a big deal.
