I have a new 700 in 17 fireball (with the long heavy SS fluted barrel) & am researching the feasability of using a heavier than usual bullet, i.e. 32 or 35 grain for better 200 yd. performance. Any thoughts or experiences with these weights?

What's your twist? Even the 25 grain V-Max is questionable in a 1 in 10". Check out Saubier for the small caliber questions.

I have a 17 MachIV (same as a 17 fireball) with a 1:9 twist Lilja bbl that shoots Todd Kindlers 30gr Golds (The Woodchuck Den) really well. You will have alot more than a 200yd rifle with these bullets. They have a bc of .271 and at 3800fps they will do more than you can imagine on varmints. I use mine for a coyote calling rifle and it is more than adequate. There was an article in Small Caliber News some time back about a gentleman in Alaska who used these bullets in a 17 Tac at around 4000fps for wolves out to 400yds. Todd makes good bullets and is a good guy to deal with. Good luck.

My Remington is 1-9 twist.

Genco-inc makes a 32gr RBT which worked very well for me in a LVSF 17rem. This was several years ago so Im not sure if they still make bullets from searching their website.

That hurdle is overcome and the next is velocity with the FB case. I am getting 3940 fps with the 25 grain from a 1n10" twist 26" barrel with very little to spare if I would like to reload the case again! You would know better than I what you can get from a 30 however I think perhaps a little more case capacity may be in order. Crunch the numbers with the JBM site.

Im in kinda the same boat I just finished chambering a 8 twist 17 Rem and am looking for heavier than 30gr. bullets, is there anyone besideds Genco and H-G?
