17 Fireball Feeding Problems

I'm having a hell of a time getting a 17 Fireball to feed from detachable magazines. I have tried HS Precision bottom metal and magazines with no luck. I tried spacers, angling the feed lips of the mags, etch and the rounds are just too short to feed well. They jump out of alignment before they hit the chamber.

I switched to different bottom metal and AI mags with modified feed lips with no luck either. I haven't tried a spacer in the AI mag yet but I'm not confident that will work anyways.

Anybody ever feed a 17 Fireball from detachable magazines?

Is this a Remington 700 rifle that started out as a .223 or maybe a .222? The .221 Fireball and .17 Fireball rifles have bolts with, I think, the ejector positioned differently from other short actions to ensure feeding the short Fireball rounds.
