6mmAI or 6mm/284?

Hi,
I'm looking to get another Encore barrel and I'm torn between the two. From what I gather they are very similar in ballistics and neither is particularly complicated to load. My question is, is either caliber better suited for the Encore or does it make any difference? Any opinions/experiences would be appreciated. I will be using this mainly for deer,90-100gr bullets) and maybe the occasional coyote or groundhog.

Hello,

I would go with the 6mm AI over the 6mm/284 for use in the Encore. The smaller case head dia. will put less case head thrust on the bolt of the Encore making it easier to do the setup work for your brass and loads. Also, you will be able to get almost the same performance out of the 6mm AI and do it while using less powder, and brass is a lot easier to make. Best of luck with your new barrel.

As far as both calibers go, I had both and still have the 6mm AI. The 6mm x 284 is a real barrel scorcher. My Hart barrel that I had only lasted about 900 rounds before the accuracy went south. THe 6mm AI is still shooting phenomenal groups if I do my part. It also has a Hart 1-8 twist barrel. I know that you will be using an ENcore Barrel and I dont have any experience with that; however as far as premium brass goes for the 6mm AI, I use 7 x 57 Norma brass and just neck it down to 6mm and then fire form it. It doesnt require much to do this either. It really is very good brass. GOod luck with your project.

6mm Vais is a Improved 6x55

Almost the same as 6mm Remington.
