.17 Centerfire Choices

Looking for your expert help/opinions.

I have a .17 HMR and would like to step up to a centerfire rifle/cartridge.

I don't handload/reload so I'm looking at a factory gun and factory ammo.

Would like your opinions on which .17 to go with and why.

.17 Ackley Hornet is amazing. A real efficiency expert. Have to handload them, though, as far as I know.

I've shot a number of 17HMR rifles, I currently use a Win. 1885 (Miroku) and a CZ 457 American. I also use a 17 Hornady Hornet, a re-barreled Ruger #1. The 17 rim fires I'll shoot to about 200 yards for gophers or Sage rats. The 17 H.H. I shoot to about 300 yards, but my consistency is much better at 255 yds. I have used these calibers for many years, and believe I have developed some skills and ability with them. The 17HMR depends on getting a good ammo to the gun match. The 17 Hornady Hornet, a center fire, of course can be reloaded. Components (cases) were in short supply, so I shot quite a bit of factory. I found it to have good consistency, not as good as tuned re-loads, but it killed Sage Rats. I use 12X (fixed) Leupold scopes and a Leica range finder. I have bigger guns for reaching waaay out there. Hope this helps you.
