What is the real case capacity difference between the 17–223 and 17–223 Ackley? Does anyone have any data on it. How many more grains of powder capacity do you gain ? I realize it depends on brass brand, bullets and such but am I looking at 3%, 5%, 10%????

Since the bullet should only take up the neck area, I would imagine the difference is about the same as 223 vs 223 AI, about 2 grains? I am just guessing though.

My experience with 17 hornet says that much powder in a 17 is silly. I would certainly pick something smaller. 17-222 or 17-vartarg maybe. Im probably bias...

Agree with others... you are gaining only a couple of grains in an AI case, which is in line with a 222 Rem Mag or 204 Ruger. If yo are looking for a little more then your next step up is .17 Grendel... you could be the most recent First for this wildcat :)

Here are some generic H2O case capacity (# are rounded). These numbers can vary 1gr-2gr by brand of brass and also neck diameter. Keep in mind that necking down to .17 cal will decrease the case capacity.

17-222: 24gr
223: 29gr
223AI: 31gr
17-223AI: [TBD]
204 Ruger: 31gr
Grendel: 34gr
6mmBR: 36gr

My unfireformed 17-223AI case has 28.3gr H20 case capacity. Fire formed has 30.7 H20 case capacity.

Accuracy load same bullet differs between 125-230FPS difference.

Yes you can shoot a 18gr bullet 5000 FPS!
