168 or 190

i have a saveage 10 fp 308 that shoots 168 grn smks great and am wondering if i go to 190's if that will perform better at longer ranges. i.e. drop, wind drift, and energy. i am new to 308 ballistics because i shoot a 6 br at my local groundhog shoots. looking to get this savage to maybe shoot long range for fun.

I'd start at 40.0 and watch the pressure signs, like ejector marks, stiff bolt lift after firing, ridge around the indentation of the primer. If you can use a chronograph, it'd help too.
