I'm planning to go back to my .308 for the next mid-range match. Up until now, I have only fired full-length sized rounds in this rifle; but, I just got me a neck sizer for it and was fixing to load up some various rounds to get my brass formed for my chamber. Not wanting to shoot up all my 168gr Amax's in the process (I'm saving out just enough to load for the next match), I was gonna load some with 165gr Ballistic tips I already have on hand and wasn't planing nothing special for. Problem is, I cant find any good data for a starting place on a load for them using AR Comp. Anyone have a known, safe starting point that should be sufficient for this.
Also, will there be much difference in the end result of brass that has been fired with lower powered loads as compared to near max? Or, should I have all brass fired at around the same pressure levels to increase consistency of case volume? As my budget is tight, compounded by the fact that I am loading for both me and my son's rifle, I always strive to get the the most "bang" for my buck. I would rather save the extra powder and wear-and-tear and load low. But, if it makes a difference, I would rather work up to a little hotter load and go for the consistency. Any help on these matters would be appreciated.
