1600 Yard range need your input please!!!

Ok. So I decided to get serious about a shooting range here in Northern Utah. And so it is!!!
I need your input because I have never been to a range just shoot here on my pace.. I never do things half a$$ed as my dad would say sooooo. I poured a 12x90 pad I'm enclosing 45 feet and just putting a roof and benches over the other 45...On the enclosed part there are 6 shooting stalls each 6 feet wide and one and the end 12 feet.. so please help me with the inside layout/input, shooting windows are 5 wide 4 high see pics. I also dug pits ever 100 yards out to 1600.. one small problem is the way the property lays out only the 12' stall can shoot 100 yards, all the rest start at 200

I got very sick last July and that's what prompted all this... Ya only get one life
I built 1 50x100 barn all enclosed and finished off half of it... Now 2 years after buying this victor lathe. Time to build my first gun..

VERY IMPRESSIVE! The view is outstanding! :o What is the elevation drop from the benches to the targets? Looks like it the targets are considerably lower.

So is your question is only 1-100 yard bench acceptable? Speaking for myself, if i was to visit a range that long I would only be intrested in the 200 yd + ranges. I would only use the 100 yd for sighting in a new gun/ scope and then even a 50 would be nice. Looks like a great place and I will be headed for northern Utah this fall and hope to be able to come out and shoot once you get it open.

put a regular roof on the shelter--as you would on a house. i shot at a range once that had a metal roof for a shelter and it made the sound of the blast MUCH more pronounced. if you do add a metal roof, add insulation with some chicken wire holding it in to dampen the sound.

+1 on the metal roof..will you be selling yearly passes ? I live in tooele utah (30 miles west of SLC) and it would be worth the drive for a range like that..where in northern utah is it located?

1600 yards is sooooo cool, my 6.5 is the only thing I own that I'd attempt to shoot that far though, and I'd love to try it some day.

WOW! Very impressive. I don't think the single 100yd stall will be an issue. Who wants to shoot 100 when you have a range that long anyway!

I will also agree on the metal roof. They are loud when firing, and annoying as hell in the rain.
Insulation will help a bit, but wood is much nicer. Cover the whole roof with ice and water shield before you shingle it and you will never have any leakage issues.

You make me want to move to Utah!

any up-dates on "our range" lol..sorry just kidding..so whats been going on? I really would be interested in joining you for a shoot..where are you located ?

Take care of your health and let the small stuff take care of itself. Fantastic and best of luck. How nice it is to see a dream come true. What will you shoot?

Wish the OP would post some pics of the range complete! I remember seeing this thread when it started. Would love to see the out come! To have my own 1600yrd range just makes my mouth water!!

How are you going to plot your shoots? Have you considered a video system?. Unless you install some sort of a system your going to be going back and forth a lot, unless you have some real good friends. Wish you well on the range. If you need advise or help with the lathe work give me a yell.

8) Wonderful looking range, I am definitely jealous! If you have not yet given thought to stools for your shoots, may I suggest the solution my son and I came up with. We found a few used office chairs, the new hydraulic lift style with five caster/wheels, we removed the backs and arms, recovered the bottoms with some camo upholstery cloth, and now we have roll around, vertically adjustable, quite comfortable stools while all the other guys at our local range are sitting on stools made from wheels and pipe with boards on top. I would be willing to send pics if you would like.
