155 Berger VLD or 168 Berger VLD

I've got 2 .308's. My son shoots a rem. 700, .308, 155 Berger VLD 49 gr. of re15. We have had nothing but great results with this load on deer for the last 3 years. I've got a custom built .308 that I'm shooting this year and planning on shooting 168 Berger VLD's out of it but have plenty of 155 Berger VLD's also. We mainly hunt deer 500yds and in but do some target shooting on my range up to 500 yds. For the last several years I've been shooting Bergers in my .300 win mag and .300 SAUM. Nothing but awesome results. Few have taken a step, so I'm not budging on my Bergers.

The Question is 155 Berger VLD or 168 Berger VLD from a .308 and why?

Thanks so much in advance!

In my .308's I have found that the 168's seem to be more accurate for me . All you can do is give them a try. You may like them. Don't be afraid to jump the vld's as some of my guns like it better with about .020 thou jump than a jamb.

Hypothetically, they shoot the same, opinions or personal facts on either one's performance? I've never shot a 168.
Thanks,

I have tried both in my 24" barreled 308 and my gun likes the 155's better with varget or imr 4064 under them. I think I was at 44~ grains with both. Just like ejector mark on the brass

Hey 12Rdad

Ive got a box of 168's if you wanna try them. I need to know by Sunday as Im leaving on a trip for two weeks.

PM me your shipping info if interested

Aloha

My son got a nice little buck with the new .308 and 168 Berger yesterday. Maybe a 40yard shot? And he ran just about 40 yards. Thats probably as far as I've seen one run with the Bergers and don't know how he took a step. Anyway so far so good with the 168's. Hopefully more to come soon.

YOUR SON HAS THE TICKET RL-15 155 VLD IS A DEADLY COMBO, IT WORKS WELL FOR ME, THERE JUST A LITTLE FASTER THAN THE 168'S AND SPEED DOES KILL THATS MY OP!!!!!!!!!!!

The one that shoots best in your rifle is what i would use at those distances.

Nailed it. Test them both at the distances you want to hunt and whichever ones shoots the best is the one I'd take to the field with me. Let the rifle tell you what it likes.

thanks everyone!

here is a video of the 168 in action. my son likes doing this better than punching paper:
