153.5 berger/153ATIPS load data 6.5x284

Anyone have any load data for the 6.5 * 284 Norma shooting 153 grain projectiles . I have h4350 and h4831sc reloader 17 to start off with. I know you can use h1000 and reloader 26 for super velocity but cannot find any. And a few other powders reloader 19 reloader 22 N165 can't find any of these either so I think I'm going to start with h4831sc first then try reloader 17 just to see if I get more velocity but most important I am looking for the most accurate load of course. But I would like to be around 2,900 feet per second with that grain of projectile if possible barrel length is 28 inches.

Thanks for your help

Closest thing I have on Quickload is the old 155 Sierra Matchking. With that bullet and your bbl. length, you would need 54.0 - H4831 operating @ 60,000 psi to reach 2900 fps.; or 50.0 - RL 17 @ 61,000 psi. with less case fill. RL 26 would get you 2900 operating in the more reasonable 55,000 psi range -- be nice if it were readily available. For most powders, you really need a bigger case to get that weight bullet moving. I recently purchased some 153.5 Bergers, but intend to use them in a 6.5-WSM. I have a 6.5-284, but don't see much advantage of the 153.5 over the 144 since you lose considerable velocity -- wind drift is only minimally better.

I would start here and let Hornady at least lay the foundation:

I changed my order and took your advice an ordered 144 grain LR Berger's instead 153.5 grain berger LR hybrids

Here is the neck tension I'm going to try what are your thoughts.
0.2910 sized brass outer diameter
0.2925 loaded with bullet outer diameter

Suggested neck tension from most bushing die mfgs. is .002. I prefer them with less tension rather than too much as long as not using a magazine fed rifle. Also depends upon how hard the brass in the neck is, but your idea is probably a good place to start for single loading.

It is a single shot thanks for your reply

Found pressure while breaking in barrel shoot one and clean procedure with 140 grain Berger hybrid and 142 Sierra matchkings with H 4831SC Believe It or Not 54 grains there was E swipe but not bad at all started at 50 grains no chronograph data cuz it was raining all day did not do accuracy test either just just got a rough zero at 100 yards can't wait to see what the velocity and accuracy is tomorrow. I know that 54 is way over Max but I have read that a lot of people run 53 grains of 4831 SC going to see what it will group tomorrow with 142 grain smk and 140 grain Berger hybrids and Hornady eld-m 140 grain oh and I jumped the 140 burgers and 142 smk 20 thou. for barrel break in just for the hell of it. Barrel only coppered up on the first two shots then copper stopped. Very light streaks of copper

Shot a lot of 142 Sierra MK's with 51.5 to 52.0 gr. H4831 sc, very accurate and never a pressure issue in 2 different Krieger barrels. Ran mine just off the lands; small groups and single digit 5 shot velocity spreads. Be careful about running excessive pressure on brand new brass, as that's when it's the softest.

How long is your Barrel and what velocity was you getting or are you getting.

My Barrel is 28-inch Criterion bull barrel

So far with 53 grains of h4831 shortcut and Sierra matchking 142 grain kissing the lands shot 7 into 1/2 inch at 100 yards muzzle velocity 2950

Loaded 5 more @ 0.002 off shot 4 in the same hole pulled the second 2nd shot quarter inch low.

So far it don't like 140 Berger hybrid but I haven't really tested them enough because the smk shot good right off the bat.

Same with the 140 Hornady ELD M's but same as above haven't messed with them enough.

Using Lapua 6.5 * 284 Norma brass
CCI benchrest primers

Both of mine were 27" and velocity was 2875 to 2900, 51.5 to 52 gr. - 2950 with 53 gr. and 28" bbl. fits right in the picture.

153 ATips shoot freaking awesome also. .4 5 shot Group at 100 yards

51.8gr. H4831SC

Don't know muzzle velocity yet. chronograph problems

I run the 153.5 berger hybrid with h 4831sc and federal 210m primers. I know I'm a little late here seeing that you went with the 144's but just in case you want to switch back. 48.6 grains is a major flat spot. It's slow but stable. Single digit SD. Comes out at 2730fps with 28 barrel. Recoil is almost zero out of 15lb rifle. And first true 1/4 inch 5 shot groups i have ever produced

Although I do like the heavy 153a tips or bergers.
I just loaded up today and tested the 140 Eld with 53 grains h4831sc 0.010 jump two true 1/4 inch groups at 100 yards and the funny thing is, It was extremely easy to do. I didn't have to really concentrate. The fixed 36 power scope helps LOL.

So I'm sticking with 140 ELD m still don't know muzzle velocity cuz my chronograph crapped itself. But I've had it for like 10 years . I'm guessing 2900 fps at the muzzle. Took 75 rounds to find good load. Started with smks 142 grain did 5/8 inch right off the bat. Got them down to half inch which is excellent for me. Kissing the land. Berger hybrid 140 just gave up on . No particular reason want to save them for my 6.5 Creedmoor it's also a quarter inch rifle.
Then the 153a tips half inch at 100 yards told myself that's excellent that was yesterday.

Then today I said well let's try the 140 grain ELD m s at 0.010 jump 53 grains of h4831sc Virgin brass and by God nailed it right on the nose to tell the truth I think it like virgin brass better than fire formed so I might screw my full-length Sizer die down a little bit to bump the shoulder back maybe 0.003 or 0.004. Or back to factory dimensions.

Has anyone experienced that with Virgin brass?

I think you're right on with velocity on the 140 ELD's. Quickload shows 2902 with your load and a 28" bbl. with an OAL of 3.228 (default length). Pretty mild pressure too, in the 51,000 range.
