15-60 scopes VS 8-80 March...

I am looking to upgrade my ELR scope this spring. I have a Viper VHS-4310 6-24 x 50 I am pleased with. That said, I am thinking 15-60X for my 338 LM, or perhaps going to one of the March 8-80 models.

Any suggestions?

thanks,

Rich

Yeah I agree with you.....Didn't pay close enough attention to that 338 i guess.......Works real nice on a 6.5-06imp 17lb. gun....;)

ERL stay 25X and under. those scopes aren't going to have the travel necessary for 100 yard zero and like Jim said the eye relief will be way to short. the ATACR is the best of the affordable scopes that will not leave you wanting IMHO. but I do love my BEAST.

ELR rifles usually means hunting. I think you will find the March ìs too dark to hunt long range with especially in the late day hunt. Matt

My bad.....I thought ELR meant extended long range......I usually didn't attach that 1 mile stuff to hunting......but i DO live in Pa.

The mentioned scope has an illuminated reticle.....o_O

I have a 2.5-25x42 March that I hunt with. It's brighter than any other scope I own (including other March, Vortex, and NF). But knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have taken the chance if I had to do it again, just for the reason you state.

I live in PA also. My buddy killed one at 1860, with a NXS 5.5x22x56 but it was up north and there was snow. The snow helped. The illuminated reticle doesn't help if you can't see. I bought a Schmidt and Bender 12x50x56, very bright but no illunated reticle and has too small of dot. Will probably put it on a match gun. I looked through a Swarovski X5I 5x25x56 and it really looked good. I need to see the Swarovski, 5x25x56 Schmidt & Bender and a Zeis 5x25x72 side by side right at dark. I see a road trip in the future. Matt

You could be correct, I have heard people say that. The ones I looked through werent. It gets pretty tough at distance the last 20 minutes on a bad day. Matt

Ive taken my 338 to over 2500yds, never had a want for more than 25x. Actually the only time I ever want more power is a stationary br rifle on a paper target. Power makes it hard to find and stay on your target in the field. The 5.5-22 NF or 2.5-25 March is what Id look at.
