147-ELD-M Hornady. 260 loads

Has anyone developed any good loads for this bullet? I'm using 140 A MAX. and wondering how to wor from those loads. How much should I change from H4831 or H4350 for the 147 ELD-M?

See the attached PDF. This is from hornadys website.

I will be doing some load development later this summer with h4831sc and imr 7828ssc.
That's definitely a start. You'll certainly get much better performance from your 260 with the 147s than the Hornady data. Depending in bbl length of course.

You are going to be at a full case or slightly compressed with H4831. Based on Hodgdon data (142 grain and 160 grain), I would expect your max load to be about 47 grains. It will depend to some degree on how far out you can seat the bullets to maximize case capacity.

Again based on Hodgdon data, I would expect max H4350 to be about 44 grains. Case probably not quite full.

Toss up as to which powder may be better.

I am currently using 45.2 Gr. H4831 and 41.5 Gr H4350 with 140 AMAX and Lapua 139's. So those powder limitations should not present a problem. I have 28" Criterion Barrel and haven't tested seating depth yet. Just got the bullets today. The two loads I am currently using are my accuracy loads. Have tried stronger loads, but primer pockets didn't like them, 3-4 firings at best. My H4831 load is a pretty consistent SD of like 8 or something close to that.

For the 147, I tried 42 gn of h4350 with my 260 seated out to 2.890 and it blew primers. I went back to 41 and it didn't blow primers but I could tell that I wasn't getting enough velocity to be better than either Berger 140 Hybrid or Nosler RDF. For me at least the 147 is a no starter. I am not wasting anymore of my barrel for this bullet.

I am going to add my current load:

Lapua Brass
CCI BR2
H4350 @ 42.4gr
142gr SMK

MV @ 2780 FPS out of a 26" 8 twist rock creek barrel.

After running the numbers on JBM, I need ~ 2600 fps to meet and slightly beat my wind drift when using the 147 gr ELD-M's vs the 142gr smk's. This is at the mid range distance of 600 yards. I will be expecting to get 2750 FPS+ out of a 260rem and a 26" barrel. This is 14% less wind drift at 600y. This will potentially add up to a point or two in F class per match.

Just adding some thoughts.

My 147gr eld 260 load:

Lapua Brass
CCI BR2
41.9gr of IMR4451

Gives me 2800 fps with a 30 inch barrel. Hodgdons website lists 41.5 IMR 4451 as the max load for a sierra 142 so I must be on the warm side with the 147s.

I use a heavy load of Re 19 in my 24-inch barrel and get 2724 fps for velocity with the ELD-M ,147-grain. They are WAY accurate, but all bullets are accurate through my Criterion barrel. I seat the bullet to the max possible with my standard magazine-2.848.
