140 berger vld's

I have heard that bergers vld's are finicky. Would like to use some 140's in a 6.5x55, But how finicky are we talking about?

Just my opinion, I noticed that they like it up against the lands and they shoot very well for me in my 6.5-06,like .12groups at 100 and around 1" at 500. My buddy shoots the 130 VLD's in his 6.5x55 improved and likes them also.

If you have any faith in what Walt Berger says, you should put them on or in the lands. I have not shot a large number of Berger's, but every vld bullet I have shot in the 30 cal is a hammer, when put in a good rifle with a standard, good shooting load.

To my understanding, the US F-class team is going to be shooting Berger 140's, they must not be too difficult.

I have used both the 130 and 140 vlds in my 6.5-284 and I love, but you have to shoot on the lands or jam them. They are very consistent sierras maybe a little better, but berger has alot better bc. I would suggest trimming the meplat.

BARBARA WON THE F CLASS FIRING THE BERGER 140 GRAINS IN THE FIRST 1000 YARD,196-7x) MATCH AND FIRING THE SIERRA 142 GRAINS IN THE SECOND,197-9x) MATCH. THE SCORE TOTAL FOR THE TWO 1000 YARD MATCHES ON THE 600 YARD MR-1 TARGET WAS 393-16X, SECOND PLACE WAS 8 POINTS BACK AND THIRD PLACE WAS 12 POINTS BACK.

WE DID NOT HAVE TIME TO DO ANY LOAD TESTING ON THE BERGER 140 GRAINERS, USED THE SAME LOAD AS FOR THE 142 GRAINERS. THE BERGER LOAD MAY HAVE A HIGHER MV, AS THERE WERE SOME PRESSURE SIGNS. LONGER BEARING SURFACE?

WILL DO A LADDER TEST OVER THE CHONOGRAPH WITH THE BERGER 140’S, AS SOON AS WE HAVE SOME GOOD WEATHER.

Chronograph results for the B140’s

S142 49.5 grs H4350 MV=3008 ES=19 SD=08 for reference
B140 49.0 grs H4350 MV=3026 ES=11 SD=04
B140 49.5 grs H4350 MV=3057 ES=15 SD=05

Should have check the MV with 48.5 grains of H4350, my guess it would be just below 3000 fps.

August 07, 2006 1000 yard testing at Sacramento, windage used was 3 – 4 minutes.
,new Norma brass was used for the Berger bullets tested today)
Berger 140’s using 48.5 gr. H4350 had five shot group of 5 ¾”
Berger 140’s using 49.0gr. H4350 had a four shot group of 4” all Horz., I shot one flyer opening the group to about 11”)

The 48.5 grains shot about one minute above, the 49 grains shot about two minutes above the the S142 load
Using 49.5 grains.
