14 caliber cleaning rod

While waiting for the commercial ones to become available, my gunsmith is making a 14 caliber cleaning rod from 1/8 inch diameter brazing rod from the welding shop.

The 1/8 inch rod does slide through the barrel.

Is this a common approach ?

I have used drill rod and cut a slot at one end for .177 air rifles. Enco or other machine tool suppliers have drill rod . Also use Q-tips as a mop pushed or blown through with compressed air.
