139 gr 7mm Remington Magnum hunting loads

H4831 burn rate is ideal for that bullet as well. Try not to be partial to any one powder manufacturer though. It may restrict you from unveiling your rifles true potential. Your rifle has it's own taste and you'll just have to find it. I shoot reliant in some rifles, Hodgdon in others, imr in pistols, and even ramshot in one varmint rifle.

Hodgon H4831SC

I use it in my 6.5x61Super, very similar case capacity as the 7mm Rem MAG

6.5x61Super = 77.6 gr. Water
7mm Rem MAG = 82.0 gr. Water

Water Capacity = 77.6 grains
Bullet = 6.5mm 139 grain Lapua Scenar
Accuracy Load = 57.6 grains H4831SC
Velocity = 3,060 fps
-24.3 MOA@ 1,000 yards
-75.6 MOA@ 1,760 yards

MAX Load = 69.1 grains Vihtavuori N570
Velocity = 3,318 fps
-18.8 MOA@ 1,000 yards
-55.1 MOA@ 1,760 yards

H4831SC - Ballistically, this Extreme Extruded powder is the exact copy of H4831. Physically, it has a shorter grain size, therefore, the designation SC or short cut. The shorter, more compact kernels allow the powder to flow through the powder measures more smoothly, helping to alleviate the constant cutting of granules. With the smoother flow characteristics comes more uniform charge weights, while the individual grains orient more compactly, creating better loading density.

In my experience I've found that the H4831 and H4831SC will not shoot with the same accuracy or speed. The shorter kernels seem to change the whole ignition process. It would have to because a good analogy would be like trying to light a bunch of wood broken into tiny pieces then trying to light larger branches with the same method and expecting them both to catch fire and be consumed at the same rate. Just ain't gonna happen. So the rate of speed that pressure is built with short cut powder has to change as well. The same goes for my experiences using IMR7828 and IMR7828sc . The short cut versions definitely allow more powder to be crammed in the case, but 9 times out of 10, it won't shoot the same. Perhaps others have had different results, but that's what I've found with my trials using the short cut powders.

You are going to like that 139gr bullet in a 7Mag on whitetails as long as you stay away from the shoulder, otherwise you will have a mess. On solid ribcage shots it will strike them down like the Sword of Gideon. Within 250yds it will turn everything north of the diagragm into a gelatinous goo that is reminiscent of Cherry Jell-O left in the sun :)

I ran a quickload propellant chart for this . I'm guessing you bought the Hornady interbond bullets , so that is what I used . I used a max case fill of 105% . I used a max pressure of 62300psi , quickload max psi is 62366 . this chart is pushing max loads so a lot of these show caution over pressure for safety reasons . this chart shows the powders from fastest velocity to slowest . I hope this chart doesn't get all jumbled up . Jim

Jazz, I am shooting 73.0g of R#25 with a Win mag primer with a 154g Hornady Sp at 3250 out of a 26" barrel, I doubt that you can get enough R#25 in a case for a 139g-140g bullet without having slow speeds, R#25 is best suited for the heavier bullets. Imr 4350 is a stellar performer with the 139-140g bullets, speed and accuracy. Forget filling the case routine...I have had many 7 mags that have shot the 140's into tiny groups at 3200-3250 fps with IMR 4350, in rem cases, with the 9 1/2 primer.

R#22 works very well with the 140g bullet weights with a CCI250 primer...your rifle will pick the load it likes.

I have another that loves the 140g Tripple shock with 67.0g of R#17, win case, 215 primer, bullet .050 off the lands, work up to this load.

The Quickload table shows that the slower powders give more velocity than 4350 or 4831 provide with the 140 gr bullets, pressure being equal. That doesn't mean that the two above mentioned powders won't be more accurate, or satisfactory, but that they will be slightly down on velocity. That said, there isn't a deer alive (or dead) that can tell the difference between 100 fps slower or faster bullet.

Anyone have any results with Retumbo and the 139-140 grain bullets. One of my 7mags loves Retumbo with the 162's. The catch is it only has a 19" factory Savage barrel on it. I was pondering dropping down to the 139-140's to get my velocity up around 3000fps.

Resurrection Day on an OLD POST.... but since I'm just starting to load my new 7 mag with 139 and 140 bullets... let's bring her back alive with New Information from all you guys who have learned something over the past 5 years.

Danbros, I've got a couple 7mags that like IMR 4350 around 64-65gr. As usual work up to this with caution
