130VLD 6.5mm on Deer

Anyone here have experience with the 130gr Berger VLD hunting bullet on game? Just put together a 260 Rem for buddy. Looking at the ballistics of the 130grVLD it shoots flat like the 123gr Amax with the wind drift of the 140 Amax if I can get them to 3000fps at Magazine length. (Hope im not too out of line for the speed here)
Coyotes? Antalope?

Thanks

I can get them to 2950 out of a 6.5Creedmoor (26"), but it is a stout load of H4350. I've seen some very fast speeds with Re17, but the accuracy wasn't good enough to continue with it. The VLDH works as well as a target bullet as it does as a hunting bullet. What's not to like.

I've noticed that it doesn't leave too much of a blood trail as the deer usually don't move from the spot. The 140's do the same thing.

i run the 140s in the 6.5cm out of a 28 inch bbl and its pretty much a deer hammer. my shots are usually in the 300-325 yrd range and none of the deer I have hit with it have moved at all except straight to the ground....all have been broadside lung shots, which is what you want with the vlds....shoulder hits are NOT good. I use a fairly heavy charge of RE17 and accuracy is really good (it has a Lilja bbl).

I use them in a 6.5x47L with a 22" barrel. I am getting about 2810fps using 40.6 gr of H4350.
I used it for the first time last season on a nice WI doe, she dropped in her tracks to a high lung shot.

I have used the 6.5 berger 120 gr. bt in a .260 at about 2900 fps and shot a mule deer a 230 yards and it was DRT and the 120 gr is supposed to be a target bullet so I think the 130 vld should work very well on deer.

They are pure poison out of my 6.5X47L 24" Kreiger barrel. At 2889fps they are fast, flat and hit like Thors hammer. As one previous poster said, no blood trail, they just drop where they were standing.

I have used Berger only once on deer and it failed. First didn't open up, second worked perfect. Stopped using it after first attempt.

I have literary shot hundreds of deer with 6,5mm Hornady Amax 123gr and 140gr. It works as prescribed above, they run 10-30 meters when shot through the lungs or drops on the spot when hit in the heart/shoulder region.

Thanks fellas. Anyone shoot a Yote' with a 130grVLD. I use the 95gr6mm VLD to kill Coyotes in a 243AI. I don't save the pelt but have never had one get away...
Just trying to get my buddy a good all around set up that he can pretty much shoot what he wants with very little fuss and muss.
I shoot a lot of Berger bullets. My shelf looks like a dang sponser's rack. Maybe that little 123AMax would be a good All around set up for him?
Im a staunch supporter of the 162 A Max in the 7mm. It really has been a good bullet.

Thanks again from those who posted. Appreciate your opinion and help.

My shooting partner shot a yote last month with the 130. Same as deer, dead right there. You wouldn't be able to use the pelt though.

123 A Max is another great bullet.

With proper shot placement, plenty of horsepower with that recipe. Here's a couple animals shot with a 6.5x47 Lapua, 2850mv. Blue wildebeest @ 394 yds. & springbok @ 635 yds. both one shot, the blue walked about ten yards and the springbok was DRT. 130HVLDS is my go to bullet in the 6.5s on plains game.

The 130 vld work great on deer through 6.5x47 . One shot kills and no blood trailing required. You might also try 130 gn. Serria HPBT Gamekings. They seem to work just as well and priced lower.

As others have said, it should be a great bullet option for you. If Indiana finalizes some changes on deer hunting regulations for next year, this may very well be the bullet I'll be shooting.

I wasn't able to find 130gr, so I used the 140gr in my 6.5x47 with good results on my first antelope hunt this year. Also PowerPro 2000MR gives highest velocity so far without pressure problems.

Here is a film so you get an idea of what sort of performance that I find common with the Amax

What's a Hornady VLD? I looked at there product line and did not see that one listed? Did I miss something?

Good question, I don't know! Sometimes my brain and my fingers don't communicate, sorry about that.

I meant the Hornady Amax and specifically the 140 gr. I have read that a lot of people really like them but I have never tried them. Therefore the question about pass through on deer.
