13 twist for a 222 build?

Looking at starting a 222 build...I know the the 14 twist is the traditional go to config, but Im looking at a bartlein in the contour I want however its a 13 tw.I assume it should work fine. Any input on that one way or another?

what is your build for?

13tw should be just fine for typical weights in 222.

Building it for both hunting and range use, perhaps 200 yd varmint shoots at my club as well

Ive also been looking for reamers, I assume a straight SAAMI spec chamber 222 reamer will be all I need?

What weight bulet are you going to use? That will determine twist rate. As far as reamers go, do you want to turn necks or not?

I have that exact same barrel sitting in the safe for my .222 build, build it the way you want it and go enjoy shooting it....

CIP is European standard, SAAMI is American.

Lapua brass is larger in the web than Rem, Win, and Federal

Also, neck thickness on Lapua is thicker than Rem, Win, and Federal

Feel lucky? Then don't look before you leap!

My std minimum SAAMI spec match reamer has a .250 neck on it. Lapua brass NECK is .252 OH WHOOPS!!!

Then bought a .255 neck only reamer for Lapua brass!

Gotcha..thx

I`m going to try and get my .222 to rip the 40gr. bullets, I`m building a .223AI on the same action for the 53`s.....

I also built a .223 AI with a 12 twist. It has shot 50, 53, 55 and 60 grain very well with non fire formed brass. I also have a .222x35 fourteen twist that shoots 52 grain lights out. I think you will be fine.

I bet that`s a sexy case, I was thinking about putting a 40* shoulder on the deuce, but I haven`t ordered a reamer yet, so who knows...............

Any chance you could post a picture of that case (.222x35 ) for others to drool over???

My 3 / 222's are all chambered with SAAMI spec reamers as I also don't turn necks. They all shoot nice little bug hole groups with unturned necks. And I use nothing but Remington
and Winchester brass with the same powder charges for both. Never had to adjust my zeros except for real bad windy days. I've used Federal, Winchester, Remington and CCI primers with good results. What a dandy little cartridge.

Have fun with your 222 Rem. One of the most easiest rounds to tune. I shoot 46, 50, 51 and 52 gr bullets. I can get 3300 + FPS clocked velocity out of the 46 gr FB bullets.

I believe the shooter will wear out before their 222 barrels do.

.222, .222x35 and a loaded round
