So im thinking about trying 125 gr in a 1 in 12 twist . Low recoil , easy to find . Good idea or not ? Sierra makes one

Me too! I will also be loading that in 300 Sav with 12-twist barrel - for that weight/size class of bullets I will be looking at Barnes 130's and 110's, plus Nosler 125's in both BT's and AB's. Please post your results.

Here you go:

49-52g of Win 748, 125g Sierra single ragged hole, fed 210. If a 308 does not shoot this load, trade it off!!!

Same load with Barnes and nosler!!!

I have shot the 125 grain Sierra Pro Hunter in the M14 in NRA High Power Rifle competition in the 200 yard standing slow fire and sitting rapid fire stages. I did this to take advantage of the reduced recoil. The gold standard for the M14 in NRA XTC competition is the 168 SMK, 41 grains of IMR4895 and Lake City brass. I used the 125 with the same load and found that it was almost as good as the 168 SMK with significantly less recoil. On very windy days it was not the best choice but on most days the reduced recoil was and advantage. The 125 is also a good choice for the 100 yard reduced course.

I shoot the 125 Nosler Ballistic Tip with 46 grs IMR 4895, WW case, CCI-BR primer and it does 3000 fps from my 21 1/2" barrel 308 Win and it shoots bug holes. As long as you keep this bullets impact velocity under 3000 fps it is an AWESOME deer bullet. I also shoot it in my 30x47 at 2850 fps and my T/C Contender 14" barrel pistol in 30-30AI at 2670 fps. All are very accurate and kill deer BANG FLOP. The Speer 125 TNT with the same loads is just as accurate but this bullet is a varmint bullet that really comes apart on impact.

Im going to try it soon as i get some. I only shoot 300 yards at the most around here. For hunting ill keep my 165 gamekings .

It’s been awhile but Speer’s .308” old as the hills 130 grain HP varmint bullet used to work very well for me out to ~ 300 yards, mostest available around here. Splats on impact, I never had one exit a groundhog.

I shoot 125 Sierra TNT in my Browning BLR and 125 SST in my Savage for Deer hunting. Shots are normally less than 100 yards but they both provide DOI ( DEAD ON IMPACT ) performance. IN three years , never had one take a single step. Not sure how they would work at longer distance or bad shot placement though.
Loading both near the top with W748 and both shoot around 3/4 to 1 MOA.

does this small of a projectile stabilize okay with a 1-10 twist barrel? i have a savage model 10, and my pops has a TC Venture. he wants to see what we can do with a light bullet.

Yes they will. Like I said in my other post use a 125 Nosler ballistic tip and keep impact velocity under 3000 fps and it is a real deer killer. I have shot we will say 50+ deer out to a little over 300 yards with this bullet and 95% have been bang flop and those that did not drop in their tracks did not go over three jumps. NO BULLET THAT IS NOT PUT WHERE IT IS SUPPOSED TO GO KILLS WELL.

Were these SMK's in 125 grain or which bullet? I'm thinking of doing that with their 2121 SMK's in 125 grain.

Pro Hunter, and I also shot the 135g Single shot pistol bullet from Sierra. Sierra is now making a 125g Game changer, if you can find any.

Win 748 with Win primers are a winner.

Varget has been outstanding also.

125 gr. Nosler B T & A B are great bullets for the .308 & deer hunting. Easy to tune and fast no doubt.
