As a retired LEO training officer for 30 years and have been a CCW instructor since 2004 I feel like I’m qualified to chime in here.
All the major ammunition manufacturers have a team of lawyers that their sole purpose is to decent their company in the event that their ammo is used in a shoot. If you are involved in a shooting so you really want the victims lawyers to paint the picture the you are a kill happy gun nut that loads his ammo hot to inflict as much pain and trauma as possible. They will try and convince a jury that your actions were premeditated.

I know you were not saying anything as a joke. It is funny to think if you get that same dirty lawyer they will not tear you down for shooting ammo with extra power. If they are going to question your choice they are going to question it. So shooting extra powerful ammo might not be the best choice also.

Two things you do need to know if you are in a shooting. 1 don't talk to the cops and 2 lawyer up.

I didn't realize they were +p loads when I bought them... I didn't catch it I just picked up a box from GTs police distribution store that was LE grade 124 gold dots a few months ago for my Glock 19 I carry everyday and a box if 115gr for my Glock 26 I carry concealed sometimes... Just yesterday i looked at the two boxes and noticed the +p on the 124 gr bullets... That was my fault for not paying attention , I don't really care for +p ammo.... I agree with you 100%. It's a shame that we as law abiding citizens have to worry about this stuff to be able to simply defend our families and ourselves against the evil that lurks in the world....

Some time in the past I came across a study that covered this very thing. You are in the clear because you are former leo. The rest of us can look bad by choosing gear and ammo used by leo. The short of the study was those who do what you are stating to do are the ones who are looking for a fight or something like that. The short-short version. It makes you look bad. I was not able to find this study this morning granted I did only look for about 30 seconds.

Personally using what the local cops are using is a good choice because they probably did some testing and it is consistently reliable. Granted we both know many times gear is picked because it is low cost. I am looking at you glock.

I carry hand loads because they shoot very well and I can shoot a lot of them to stay a proficient.

Once again 100% agree , I had this conversation just the other day with a good friend that has been in alot of different Leo jobs from patrol to prison guard over the years , his last job was training the state guys in the Glock and AR platform for a decade.... He laughed at me when I brought up carrying hand loads or guns with a trigger job... He said not one time has that actually been a problem because the shoot was either good or bad... His statement was brilliant when he said , you think that's going to be the problem , not the fact of all your training..? Because it's training and the background they will go after, not the bullets or the gun your carrying... After much thought , I think he may be correct , not only for ex-leo but ex- military experience with extensive or extra training.... The more training you have , the more they will come after you... Saying some BS like , well with all that training and experience why didn't you just shoot the guy who was trying to kill you more than likely in the leg and run away...lol , I don't doubt it one bit these days....

I guess I need to stick to one thing at a time..lol.. congratulations on making instructor and for taking the armorer courses, they are very very hand skills to have for sure....
