123 or 139 lapua 6.5x47

Where to start? Will be shooting mostly 600 and under sometimes possibly farther but not very often

What bullet 123? 136? 139?

I've been shooting 140vlds I can get about half moa to 400-600 yards and have tried to tune it but no improvement, so I'm going to try a lapua bullet next, also have a box of 130vld I may try first

I have h4350, varget and r-15
Can get r-17 locally

What's you recommendations
I have a 8 twist 28" .167freebore barrel

The 47 doesn't have a huge boiler room so more suited to the 120-130 class projectiles. I'm sure 500 owners will chime in saying their 47 sings with 139s..

Anyway, around 38grs of Varget behind any of the 123s will be ballpark and should give over 2900 in bbls over 26". 123 Scenars in mine are true one-holers with that load. Usual warnings apply on building up..

RL and the 123's is the ticket. Varget will work fine also. H4350 is to slow and is best used with the 140 class bullets. I get 2950fps with RL15 and the 123 sceners and there's a little more potential to push them faster

The most accurate load in mine out to 600 has been RL15 and 123 SMK. With a 26" barrel I run them right around 2950, very tight ES and SD with CCI450.

I have targets shot at 300 yards that are less than 1/2" center to center My rifle wears a Brux light varmint contour barrel, Manners T5A stock, and a Defiance Deviant Hunter action. The load is 139 Scenars, H-4350, and CCI BR-4's. Best thing to do is find out what YOUR rifle likes. Best of luck!

ive a 47 with the same freebore the123s with a 10tho jump 37.8 varget or 41.8 h4350 both hitting 3000f/s single fig es. the 139s have the same ogive dims and i found in the rifle with the 167 fb to much of the bullet was in the case but it still shot well @ 39.9 h4350 @2780. the 130 vlds 41.7 h4350 @2950 es 2 . out of a 29" kreiger .

My simple low budget 6.5X47 Lapua shoots 123 Amax bullets well with some variety of powders - like RL15, Varget, and now the low cost, easily obtainable H414. H414 is relatively dense and allows greater charge weights per volume should you run out of space with some other extruded powders.

My simple range testing on paper targets (do the bullet holes touch or close together?) up to 300 yards shows best results with Re15, and a tie between Varget and H414. Temperatures were moderate and consistent.

This discussion is about 123's and 139's but the 100 Amax with lots of H414 is superbly accurate and flat shooting load at 300 and is not to bad at 500 meters. 107 Sierra MK's with low drag form factors should work better than the 100 Amax's.

140 hybrid & 39-40.5gr H4350. Seems to shoot well for me in a few different barrels. Not finnicky. Great BC for caliber. Not the flattest shooting (about 2,800fps) but a good wind bucker. With your freebore, should work great.

I started with 123 Scenar running 3050fps and shot about 1000 of them. Very accurate out to 1200yd, but shifty in the wind. Tried the new 140ELD, and much more wind resistant while maintaining same vertical accuracy at 2775fps. Scored at one mile target too. You know I'm switching.

Some good info on a new bullet. Thanks for you post.
