I just got another 6br and it has a 12 twist,I tried 87vmax with 31g varget like I use in my 10 twist. They wer all over the place. Next I tried 58g vamx and they work great.
how heavy gan I go with a 12 twist barrel. I don,t want to buy 10 different bullets to find out. thanks

You can shoot 75gr V-Maxs, 70 gr BlitzKings and 80 Blitz's, and they will all shoot very well.

An excellent in a 12 twist 6MMBR is the Sierra 60grain Varminter bullet with 32.0 grs on H322. Shoots in the 2's all day from my Kelbly.

So would it be worth buying the factory savage with a 1-12" twist? I would like to shoot 100-300 yards. Possibly even 400yards. WOuld the 75's and 80's still show very good accuracy? Thanks for all of the information!

I run a 12 twist .243 win. I can shoot the 70gr Noslers with several powders and get them to group well. The 80gr Noslers work with IMR-3031 best though it seems to go against the accepted theory that slower powders work best with heavier bullets. I have been able to get good groups with the 87gr Vmax and 90gr Noslers but only under the right conditions, low barometric pressure and higher temps I think.

In short, I think the bullets that are the length onf the 80gr Noslers or shorter will work in the 12 twist. At higher elevations,I'm at 700ft above SL), lower barometric pressures and higher temps you might be able to get something longer to work. Longer isn't always heavier if you go with the copper alloy bullets like some of the Barnes offerings.

I used to have a 12 twist on a Savage and my best bullet was the 80 gr Berger. I used some old 87 gr Hornady soft points for foulers and they grouped pretty good at 200.

I shoot a 12 twist shilen straight contour barrel on a lawton 7500 action. My favorite load by far is the 80 gr berger with varget. On a very calm day I have shot 2 inch groups at 600 yards, and less than 3/4 inch groups at 300 yards. This is a great load out to 300 yards even with a slight wind but I have not been able to shoot good groups at 600 except when the conditions were almost perfect.
