12 Twist 6mm Urbanrifleman barrel PROJECT

I received a double order of LIGHT varmint 12 twist 6mm prefit blanks.

What I want to do is offer a special in ANY chamber or action thread. I would REALLY like to see some testing with this twist. It should be great for anything under 87 grain. This twist has already been tested pretty extensively by Treece Berringer in 6bra. He has been competing with it this whole last year. Results have been impressive. Especially with the 68 to 80 grain bullets.

243, 6xc, 6br, 6bra, 6 Dasher, 6brx, 6 Creedmoor, 6 GT, etc

I open to ideas.

What is the muzzle diameter of a Wilson light varmint at say...22" and 24"? Maybe even 20"? Just thinking coyote rig, suppressed...

A 6XC using the lighter flat base bullets would be interesting for up to 300yds. Make a fun coyote rig

I believe that this may be the formula. I have the 50 free bore 6xc but honestly if you wanted to run the 85 Sierra flat back you can even use the 160 free bore. Another good choice would be the Sierra 80 grain Blitz. That bullet is devastating and a 6xc should be able to pump those out at about 3600. Don't forget the 243 which is also one of my favorites but I think the 6xe does basically the same work. The 243 with the 80 grain Blitz or the 85 green Sierra absolutely hand grenades prairie dogs

Urban, have you tried your barrels yourself, in actual competition? I'm just asking because you seem to know what works best for competitive shooters. I do like the 12 twist stuff, as I've said elsewhere. I ran into a lot of flack from experienced shooters that said I should only use 13.5-14 twist barrels for up to say 68 grain bullets. Just wondering your experience, one vs the other. It seems that the predominant theme is to stay with the 13.5-14 for those bullet weights. Like you, I've had pretty good results using a 12 twist for bullets that some claim to be "overstabilized". Whatever that means. Lol!

I have lots of guys testing stuff that I recommend. Most people are shooting very similar cartridges. I have some hard core competitors, but most are club shooters.

It only takes one good shooter that practices to test a lot of twists and loads.

I think the 12 twist 6mm would be fun to test for varmint bullets.

I will be getting another one. I shot with my brother in law yesterday at 200 yards. I stacked 10 shots in under an inch in the wind. He helped me with the flags we had set. Basically when the flags where the same I let loose.
I will say this has been my first 12 twist in a 6mm.
For what Iv been doing. Shooting 80s vs 105s and 108s for 200 and 300 yards. I'm 100 percent convinced in the 12 twist. I know it's better speed.
But it's dam consistent speed. At 3250 I wasn't getting this level of consistency shooting 105s in 7.5 twist or 8..
Brad has a good barrel. And does dam good work too !

Havent tried to get there with a 12 twist. I bet I could get close.
I've shot the 12 tw and the 10tw 6xc with 70-80gr bullets. And you're correct. You can easily enough get close with the 80's with a 12 tw. Maybe a little more. THE bullet for chuck's and coyotes in my experience is the 75gr Vmax. OMG.

No doubt to me that the Sierra 80gr Blitz would be very good, but I could never find them or didn't have any loaded when I wanted to take them along. JME. YMMV. WD

What powder would be used getting the Sierra 80 grain at 3600?
Out of a good 10 or 12tw 6xc, R15, R-16, AA2700, WW 760, N150... something in that area should get you close enough, depending upon bore size, twist rate, etc. etc. If you're after coyotes or 'chucks they aren't going to complain if MV is say 3550 or so and you can put the bullet where it should be. ;):) WD
