12 Gauge slug loads

Good day chaps,

I am slowly working my way to-wards 12 Gauge slug, as a target discipline being shot from a shotgun (smooth barrel).
This is for fun, but also a journey to see how accurate it can go - within my budget.

I am able to get some brass cases but they are available for shotgun primers or rifle primers - so first question is, what should I go for?

Second Question is, what powder and how much? baring in mind that these will be fired from a bolt action shotgun.
I have experience loading rifle cartridges but have always been able to find data to start from, so far I have found nothing regards loading for slug,

Any help and thoughts most welcome as are any links to organisations or forums on the subject,

Go to Benchrest Central. Look up 12 ga. from Hell (Forum thread name). This is a LOCKED Thread, meaning you can't post in/on it. +1 on BPI I load a 1 oz Lee slug for 3 gun comps... Its very accurate out of my smooth bore 11-87. I dont know how accurate you need but I can shoot the head off a USPSA cardboard target at 40 yards with just a bead and cylinder bore. Mine are loaded just strong enough to reliably cycle the action. Rem hull win 209 primer and 19.5 green dot in a winchester brand 7/8oz wad. It works for me. And very cheap. Matt

I tried some a friend had loaded up and they shot very good.

I shot the lee slugs from my ultra slug hunter. (rifled barrel) I could not hit a 20 inch circle at 100 yards. Or one time in 5 maybe... With a smooth bore they hit it every time. Go figure... Matt
