12.5 or 13 twist and 80's

Looking for feedback on those twist rates(12.5-13) with various 6mm 80 grainers from ppc/br speeds. Anyone done it with good/bad results? I use several 12 twist bbls and it works very well. Just curious as to your results with a tad slower twist. Thanks

Aside from whatever shoots best for you, shooting 80's is almost all about a small bc edge. While it'd be nice if it shoots in a 13.5 or 14 twist, I have to believe that we are lose some of that bc that is at least part of why I shoot them. Kinda looking for the magic sweet spot between bc and twist here. If 13.5 is very borderline, the 12 is almost certainly more than necessary. I don't know of anyone that does a 12.5 other than a custom from one of the cut rifled bbl makers but you do see a small number of 13's. Was wondering mostly about that range but the audience is small, I understand. I guess I could order and try a 12.75 or similar and give it a try. Sounds like it will work without issue, at least with some if not all 80's. I like my 12 twist stuff fine but just looking for any little thing I can get. I think bullets and jackets are a lot better than just a few years ago and we can get by with a little faster twist before giving up performance. I'm just not sure exactly where that point is. It may or may not be worth trying at all but most everything has been tried by somebody. Just looking for that little bit. Thanks for the replies. Keep em coming.

I have shot 80 gr Bergers in my 6 br 13 twist. They shot in the .1 an .2s. I have not shot them in any 6 mm caliber that they didn't shoot good in. 6 br, 243, 6x47 Lapua. 8 twist 10 twist and 13 twist. Shooting them at 5400 ft elevation. Have a Dakota with 10 twist that shoots 77 gr sierris excellent out to 600 yards. Think the elevation had something to do with my results. Thanks Tom.

Mine has a 1 in 14 and i asked capt Bob (who got the rifle for me and loaded my first 50 rounds and made the brass for the next 100) about shooting 80s in it and he said "I better not even see you shooting 68s."

I shot the Bart’s 80’s in a couple of registered Group Matches. I was using a 6PPC throated out to around .090. with 4895. It tuned in just under 3200 fps.

I shot it good enough at 100 to take a second a Seymour in HV, but at 200 it seemed way too wind sensitive. In truth, I could shoot better at 200 with my 68 grn bullet a 3450.

In my 6BR, I shoot the 80 at about 3450 using ACCURATE 2495, and it shoots pretty darned good.
I thought about shooting it at the Tackdriver this year but chickened out and shot my regular 6PPC combo.

If you are familiar with UBR I have shot a 263 a few times but never a 264, one of the 263s was with Hillbilly 80 grain bullets and 8208 with a 6 Grendel 12 twist, lets not get to far from the cart here. Will a 12.5 tw help and get me that proverbial 264? If I knew it would I'd switch in less than a heartbeat BUT there are so many other variables on any given day that at some point you just have to say "this is my gun and I'm here to play"! I'll be shooting the Grendel (may try some 68 grain bullets this year) and the PPC plus a 6BR for some longer range stuff. So at this point all I can say is "bring it!" LOL That's a bold statement to my gunsmith LOL @gunsandgunsmithing @SSeal @Harvey McCraw, Brud Sheets, Richard Alford, @prologr and I can't think of Eric Leonards handle here and so many more that I shoot with on a weekly basis, my next 3 months? At the range practicing!!! (and praying).

Right attitude, anyway. Just back it up. I'll be pulling for ya.
