11th hour,11th day,11th month 1918

One of my wife's uncle was captured and was a P.O.W. for 8 months. He was never quite, "right" when he came home but, he had a heart bigger than his body. My mother-in-law, (his sister) was the first to see him as he walked up the driveway when he got home. She told me she tried to call out his name but, only a scream came out. The family rushed out of the house to see what was wrong. My mother-in-law said that was the only time she ever saw her father cry. The next day a big party was held, lots of people were there. The following day he got up and went to work on the ranch. I have a big picture of him in his uniform. I will toast him and all others who gave their lives for us this Veteran's Day.

I had the privilege of researching ww2 for an Australian archive, I covered Australia, new Zealand, America, and although some of the research
was hard on my heart , it gave me a great appreciation for those who came before me,
The sacrifice they made and fate they meet ,
No payment, no words, can thank them enough!
So we keep them in our hearts and prayers !!!

To the Veteran Patriots everywhere - I think Gen. Douglas MacArthur expressed it in words best, "My estimate of him was formed on the battlefields many, many years ago, and has never changed. I regarded him then, as I regard him now, as one of the world's noblest figures; not only as one of the finest military characters, but also as one of the most stainless. His name and fame are the birthright of every American citizen. In his youth and strength, his love and loyalty, he gave all that mortality can give. He needs no eulogy from me, or from any other man. He has written his own history and written it in red on his enemy's breast. But when I think of his patience under adversity, of his courage under fire, and of his modesty in victory, I am filled with an emotion of admiration I cannot put into words. He belongs to history as furnishing one of the greatest examples of successful patriotism. He belongs to posterity as the instructor of future generations in the principles of liberty and freedom. He belongs to the present, to us, by his virtues and by his achievements. ... Duty, honor, country: Those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be. They are your rallying point to build courage when courage seems to fail, to regain faith when there seems to be little cause for faith, to create hope when hope becomes forlorn."

On my way home now. Me and my wife visited the graves of my Dad, mother and Grandfather at Long Island National Cemetery. My Grandfather, along with his 2 brothers fought in WWl. My Dad, Mother and my uncle fought in WWll. I spent 33 months in Vietnam and Cambodia with the BRO, a total of 8 years in the Army. My son fought in Afghanistan with the USMC, and I'm confidant my grandsons will follow in our footsteps.

Here's the items my Grandson and I took to the ceremony today. My Grandpa sent them back. The pistol is a Browning model 1911. This is the model used to assassanate the Austrian Archduke and his wife. This act started WW 1.IMG_20181111_111556621_BURST001.jpg
