115's in a BR

I'm currently shooting 105's and 107's through a 31' 1-8 barrell and was curious about wether or not I could push 115's down there and have it work.
I know it should be 1-7' but..... has anyone tried this?
Does it work?
Reason for asking is i was thinking of re barrelling and going to the XC. The BR is fantastic but, well, I want more, laff.
Want to exhaust a few ideas before i make the jump.
AND
If you,ve gone from a BR to and XC, was it worth it ?

The only way the jump to an XC would be worth it IMHO, would be if you were intending to load 115s for LR shooting. The XC has the boiler room that the BR doesn't. If you are just shooting the 105-107 gr bullets, I would look to a BRX or Dasher. More bang for the buck there along with increased bbl life.

I have shoot the 115 VLDs very successfully from my 6mm BR. I just don't see the advantage to shooting them out of the BR because the velocity loss appears to offset the BC gain versus the 105 VLD. I have a Krieger 1:8 twist 31' Heavy Palma barrel on an F-Class rifle. I shoot them both with VV N540 and CCI450 primers out of neck-turned Lapua brass. My gun is chambered for the 107 SMK or the Berger 108BT. If I jam the 115 about .015 and touch the lands with the 108, the setting on the bullet seater is the same for both. I have been able to get the 115 up to what I believe is an honest 2820fps based on the comeups at different distances. The Chrony reads higher. I have shot them from 100 to 1000 yards at temps down to 60 degrees at sea level with nice round holes at 1000 yards. The vertical is just as good as the best 105 loads I have tested; but I haven't seen anything on the target that says I get better wind drift with the 115 at 2820 than I get with a 105 at close to 2900 fps. I did the tests because I was thinking about the 115s in a 6X47L or XC and wanted to see if I could stablize them in an 8 twist before I ordered a barrel.

Cool, that helps.
And yes this is for 1000 yd shoots.
Everyone else has a 6.5-284 i'd rather be different,as usual)

If you really want more for 1000 yards and to be a little different, try a .284 with the Berger 180 VLD. I had a .284 barrel for the gun with the 6 BR barrel and I sure see a difference with that.

I currently have 6BR's with 1:8, a 6XC with a 1:7.5 and a 6X47 Lapua with a 1:7

I have tried 115 Bergers in all and i have tried 115 DTAC's in all.

115's are a waste of powder in a 6BR and only the DTAC's worked in a 7.5 twist... not the Bergers.

Bottom line is that 115's are not a sure bet in anything smaller than an XC, and the need the RPM to stabilize... the BR cannot get a 115 going fast enough.

A couple of the guys I shoot LR HP with have been shooting DTAC 115s out of their Dashers, using N550 to get around 2930fps out of their 30' Kriegers - one an 8-tw., the other a 7.5-tw. Both of them have done very well at 1000yds. with these loads. I tried the DTAC 115s in my 8-tw. Dasher and didn't get them to shoot as well as Berger & Lapua 105s, with either N550 or N150. Guess it's an individual barrel thing, but after that, I never bothered to test either Berger or DTAC 115s in my other Dashers. I've got 6x47s and a 6XC to use 115s in, but will stick with 105s/107s in the Dashers.

It would seem a 1:7 or 1:7.5 twist would be preferable for the 115
VLDs, but would a 6x47 in 1:8 be fast enough to stabilize the 115s?

I was never able to get 115 bergers to work in my 1:8 6X47 Lapua, but them again, it was a temperamental cartridge for me by any measure.

a 6 dasher is no more or less accurate than a 6BR. It just has slightly more powder capacity and can give up to 100 fps more than a standard BR

My oldest 6x47L has an 8-tw. bbl. and shoots both Berger & DTAC 115s exceptionally well. In fact, the only difference I've noticed between this bbl. and the 7.5-tw. I used for the 2nd 6x47 is that the 7.5-tw. shows pressure sooner than does the 8-tw.
