115 Berger Opinions - 6x47

Hi guys,

I have an opportunity to buy quite a few 115 VLDs and after searching for some answers to my questions I have come up empty handed.

I have shot 105s from a Dasher and looking at the bullet specs, I’m seeing no ballistic advantage for the 115s.

I have 2 6x47 Lapua’s appropriately twisted to shoot the 115s. I’m currently running 107s in one and 110 Sierras in the other.

I know the 110 is the highest BC and the 107 amd 115 seem to be close on paper for BC

What is the advantage, if any, if the Berger 115?

Has anyone used them in a 6x47 if so what speed?

Any other tidbits on the bullet would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Just a note on accuracy of the 115 gr, Bergers in my 243 AI. My barrel is a 1 - 7.5 Tw. 26 inch. The load for the group below is POWDER 44.6 GR. H 4831SC PRIMER CCI BR-2 Seated @ .020 OTL. Did not chrono the load yet.

Were they picky with seating depth at all? I’m reading the 115 can hard to tune which I haven’t experienced with other Berger bullets.

I shoot a 6x47 in F-class. My barrel is a criteion 1:7. My 1000 yard load is with 115 DTACs. They shoot well and live up to their advertized BC. They are very forgiving to jump because they are not VLD. I run them at 3005. Not a hot load, 39.8 H4350 in Lapua brass with CCI-450's.

I agree that you want the 1:7 barrel to get the full BC out of whatever you shoot. So far I have not found anything to complain about with the 1:7. Last barrel I pulled at 2200 rounds only because I didn't want to start this season with that many rounds and have to switch barrels mid season.

If I was to shoot any other bullet at 1000, I would go with the 109 LRHT. I have a good load with RL-16 at 3050. It only requires 1 more MOA of elevation and has only 1 MOA greater wind than the 115 at 1000 with 10MPH wind. I just managed to snag 300 more so I have enough to give them a try at 1000 to see.

If cost is a factor then consisder the 112 Barnes Match Burners. I have not shot them for score but a friend has access to a 1200 meter steel range. I toke them out when we went to that range this spring and connected with a 1' square plate at 1200 meters on the third shot. The first 2 were misses just off the edge and both of those were hitting at the same water line. This is another I am considering for 1000 in case the 115 DTACs don't come back.

food for thought - HTH

Recently tried this load with my 6BRX. I'm planning to try it @ 300 yds. soon. Did not chrono yet.
