11 or 12 twist 40 Grain

Which of the 2 would You think would stabilize the 40 Grain bullet best? 11 twist or 12 twist. 12 twist seams to be most popular but anyone out there having good luck or better with 11 twist? Would like to shoot the 20 cal Nosler Ballistic Tip Varmint.

Assuming this is for a 20 cal? Look on Berger's website for their quick reference sheet. That is a pretty good place to look for stabilization of different weight/length bullets.

Berger's 40 grain HPBT is 0.685" long, and is OK with a 12 twist. See link below. If the ones you want to shoot are this length or shorter you should be good to go with a 12 twist.

I would go with a 1 in 11 twist to be sure. as I have heard alot of guys over here in the uk with 204's that cant shoot 40 grain bullets in there 1 in 12 twist rifles very well at all.

mind these are factory barrels that are more then likely not a true 1 in 12 twist.

I built a 204 on a blueprinted M700 action with a PN 11 twist Super Match 3-groove 24" barrel to match the Remmy contour. It shoots the 39SBK and both the Nosler 40gr BT and the 40gr V-Max into one hole about every time.

The 40gr V-Max is usually the bullet most 12 twist 204's will either shoot or flatly refuse to shoot worth a hoot. My other three 204's will not shoot it, but the 11 twist doesn't mind the 40gr V-Max one bit:

It seems a 12 twist 204 is a crap shoot....you won't know until you try the 40's.
