107 SMK question

How far you jumping them or are they better off touching? First timer with the BR and looking for help. Thanks Guys.

OK please explain this to me. Not trying to be smart I just don't understand jamming bullets.
I am not jamming, I am in the lands .010. Jamming is when you put the bullet in all it will go for the tension used. In 1000 yard testing almost all my guns shot better in the lands. I am talking .010 to .015 in from touch. Matt

jumping is before you get to the lands, I usually had better luck just touching with 107s ,but every barrel is different! you just have to see what it likes!!!!!

I think when dk says ".010 to .015 from touch" he means ".010 to .015 into the lands from the point it touches". If you are short of the lands, you ARE jumping.

Excellent accuracy out to 1K, jumping them .025. Sierras are notoriously inconsistant for their Length To Ogive measurement. You may wish to seat them a bit long, measure and sort each round, and adjust your seating die for a given batch to get consistant jump. PITA, but it really helps.

I have 2 BRs I shoot. Lately I've been shooting the 105 hybrids w/h4895 good luck.
I just did a bit of load development this weekend with the new 107s and Varget.
30.4 grains seated .030 off gave me an e.s. of 1 over 5 shots! At 500 yards
it held 1 1/2" vertical. going 2875. I need to explore THAT combo a bit more.

.010 off or jump, I start there , once i find my sweet spot I may or maynot try different positions depends on grouping if i'm 1/4 moa I'm done

Well I've shot everywhere from touching to 20 off (jumping). Best group was touching at .183 worst was .538 that was with Nosler Custom Comps. They do show promise touching to about 10 off (jumping). Now to find more BR4's.

I think you will find that everyone's gun will shoot different but my Br likes them jumping them 35 with 30.5 gr of varget . That combo got me a 1.063 group and closest to the X at our last 600 yard club match

One thing is for sure...the SMKs are far more forgiving when it comes to normal erosion as opposed the the VLDs. I've seen 107 SMKs perform great as far of the lands as 0.060". VLDs need to constantly chase the lands due to greater performance when touching or jamming.

This is an older thread but I found it so I think others will too.... Just finished working up a load for 26" 6 creed, Proof Research SS barrel with a suppressor. ( I tested the 107 Sierra, 108 ELD and the 105 Berger Hybrid). Of the 3 bullets the 107 SMK's have been the easiest to tune in. They also gave me the widest powder node. Like Dan mentions above, I ended up at 2.226 CBTO, which is about .046 from Jam for this chamber.
3075 FPS with 38.8 grains of H4350. Very consistent load. Don't be afraid to test seating depth in .003 increments. Once I find my powder charge I test seating depth with 3 round groups. You will often watch your groups shrink up as you are tuning in the harmonics. I feel the bullet does not care where the lands are. You just want it to exit the barrel at the right moment.Good Luck.

If the length vary as you state.... why would it be better to jump them?it would still be inconsistent.... Funny you say this because I measured a lot of bullets and A Tips and pointed SMK are among the best for overall length. I measured some well known bullet makers vary .060 in length in a hand full ...... jim
