107 sierra matchking

I see that most folks use 105-108 bergers or amax for long range 600-1000 matches. Is anyone having success using a 107smk? Out of fashion or not as good as the others?thanks

I think it really depends on what the individual barrel likes and doesn't like. My son shot one of my trued Remington 700's with a Hart 6BR barrel at the New Year's fun match at Piedmont shot by IBS 600 yd. rules using 107 SMK's over 30 grs. of Varget and won one class shooting against some of the best shooters around. Sierra is making a really good 107 gr. bullet right now. Measuring ogive on a Tubb's comparator they are running very consistent. Let your barrel tell you if they will work for you .

Eggman is wise--you just have to see what your barrel likes. I have a very tight PacNor .236 6mm barrel, and nothing shoots better out of it than the 105gr Lapua 6mm Scenar, which runs on the "skinny" side compared to most other 6mm match bullets. The Scenar's .2427" or so diameter agrees with my rather tight bore.

Berger 105 VLD, Berger 108 Match, Sierra 107 MK, Lapua 105 Scenar, Amax 105, Spencer 103/106 -- these are all good bullets that have won many matches.

I've tried mostly the Sierra's with great results, tried a few Hornadys last weekend and they worked well too.

28gr. Benchmark in front of 107 smk's , 30" 1-8 tw.
30 gr. Re - 15 seems to work better.

Interesting comments. I have NEVER been able to get 105 scenars to work in anything... weird, because they are the most uniform bullets I've used.

I have never found a 6BR 1:8 that wouldn't make 107 SMK or berger 105 VLD bullets work. They are both very good, very forgiving bullets.

Hey moderator did you get that tight barrel special or did it just come that way?

All PacNor 6mm barrels have a 0.236 land diameter. I think mine has a bit of choke too,not by design). Anyway it sure likes the 105 Scenars.

I have two different 6BR's.. both are Eliseo R5's but different barrels.. one is a 27.5 inch Krieger 8 twist and the other is a Rock Creek 30" 7.5 twist. Both like the same load, SMK 107's dry over 30.6 grs of RL-15.
