107 gr matchking

Quick question, will the remington 700 sps varmint .243 1-9 1/8 twist barrel stabalize the 107 grain matchking, or do I need to stick with the 95's?

you have 1-9 1/8 twist barrel listed. Which one is it? Either way, the 107 should be stabalized because you will be pushing it at high enough velocity out of the 9 twist. It would be a sure thing in the 8 twist.

i see what you were trying to do--that's my fault. i did not know that remington could take their twist rates to the decimal point.

I don't think it will do it in all conditions and hold. You can try some and see. I'll bet accuracy will suffer.

The slowest twist I have heard used effectivly is 1:8.5 and they were being pushed very hard.

were shooting bombs at the boomer shoot (boomershoot.org) with a savage`1in 9.25 twist it shoots the 105 amax great at 700 yds, and i have shot the 107's at 100 with good groups but never had the oppertunity to shoot them farther.

Stay with the 95's...

Pushing the 107's to 3000 fps in a 9.125" twist barrel will give you a gyroscopic stability factor of 1.2 - your target SG is 1.4.

It is not about "will it work" but more a matter of how effictively will it perform.

Sheep, I understood your initial statement. You said one twist in 9 1/8 inch.

Shot 107 MKings out of a Savage 12FV .243 with a 9.25 twist. MV of 3050 with a compressed load of RL25. Accurate at 1000 yds.

Did well in F Class two years ago at the Ontario Fullbores with the 107s and the .243. Won the Friday Aggregate (300, 500, 900, 1000) in Factory Class. Beat shooters telling me my twist was too slow.

Ballistics theory is for the faint of heart. The only way you can find out is shoot them and see what happens.

My REM 700 in .243 Factory barrel will not stablize the 107. Lucky to get on paper at 100yds. It shoots the hornady 70FB varmint bullets and Sierra Gameking 100gn extremely well though. Its right on the edge, some will shoot fine, and some don't.
