105gr Berger VLD vs. Hybrid

I'm curious about the results obtained when 6BR shooters have switched from the VLD to Berger's Hybrid bullet in the same weight? I'm thinking about giving them a try, and would appreciate some feedback from those who already have.....

Thanks,

George

I shot the 105 VLD Match and Hunting exclusively for the last 2 yrs. Then came the Hybrid..........Haven't looked back. I had to jump the VLD's .030 but with great results. The sweetspot in my gun for the Hybrid is .020 with .5 gr increase in powder. It seems to be more consistant.

Think big and shoot small

+++ on what Brad says......the Hybrids are the cats meow in both the 105's and 140's for the 6.5. I have friends shooting the 180's in 7MM and they like them as well. I jump mine as well with great results.

I've had good results both jumped and jammed, my brx slightly prefers .010 in. Same powder charge that I used with the vld bullet.

Wooger,
I am shooting mine .016 off and they shoot great, what yardage are you shooting yours at? and what kind of groups, I used to jam my 107SMK's with great results but in my rifle and the hybrids they seemed to like a jump.

Wayne, I'm shooting both mid and long range F Class, so kind of hard to say what the grouping is, vertical is excellent. I initially selected a loading .005 off with a higher velocity but I get better precision in the lands at less speed. The groups at point blank range are so small as to be unbelievable.

Very interesting, thanks Wooger. I am shooting mine at around 3050 fps in my 6brx what velocity are you running? and what powder/primer if I can ask, I am using 33.5 grains of Varget/cci450.
Wayne.

My jumped load was 33.4 grns of RE15 at 3040 fps. I settled in at 32.2 grns Varget at 2975. Both loads with 450's or 7 1/2's with the nod to the 450's.

As far as groups at 1000 you would have to ask member "mattt" to chime in ;).

I will look him up and ask, thank you.

Kind of off subject but my sav 6 br shot hornady 105 a/max or the 107 smk both so well it didnt matter which one. With the 6 br it shoots so well the shooter matters more than the load. Who ever reads the wind the best wins! there is no majic load ;) I pulled my Savage factory f/class 6br barrel off and put a new bartlein and it shoots the same groups.

Wayne, mattt was pulling my target the day I had a lucky good group and I was trying to get him to corroborate it. Suffice to say that the hybrids work well at distance in my rifle.

Looks like the Hybirds are the way to go! Everyone I am speaking to are switching to them!

Not to rain on the parade, but in my 6BR shooting groups at 500 meters over a few different days in different conditions it came out a draw. If anything a slight edge had to go to the 105 VLD's. Since I already have 2000 pointed up 105 VLD hunting bullets I sold the Hybrids.
Just my limited results.

My experience with them was unreal at first, shoot really good groups in and out of the lands, then the next time they would open up got to be very frustrating so I tried the vlds so far they stay the same good groups consistantly.I shot my best agg with them this past weekend then again it may just be me and it probably is.

No I don't think it is you I have been using them for 1K BR and contrary to popular belief that there not picky to seating depth is BS there VERY VERY finicky, they will do as you say a good group or two then goo to hell. Until you have them tuned to the distance your shooting you probably won't be happy, I think I have them finally figured out in my rifle but who knows it may go to hell again and throw my theory out the window ???

I`m a die hard VLD fan, but I like to shoot groups, smaller is better! The Hybrids are going to be a great score bullet due its high BC and its designer plays that game. Give me a good lot of VLD`s and I`m a happy camper.

I've had my best groups ever with the hybrids, followed by the orange box vld's and btt. At any range.

So far, knock on wood, I have nothing but great luck with my Hybirds! I talked to Berger several times last week. Their 6mm 105 Hybirds orders are backing up big time! Their getting unreal feedback from the Hybirds! They do great in my 308 as well, 185 grain!
