105 hybrids for 6br. In or off the lands?

I'm going back to the drawing board for load development on my 6br.

I was using N-540 but the weather has cooled in AZ and so has the load I've been using. I'm getting elevation that I didn't when the warmer weather was here.

I'm switching to Varget now and wondered how many shooters are off the lands and how many are in the lands?

I was running 10 thousands into the lands but thought of testing this as well.

It's a Bat action, Krieger 8 twist barrel.

Thanks.

Allan.

Seems lots are starting around 10 to 15 thou off the lands with good resullts. My 6br shoots them well at 12 thou off, this may get you a starting point but of course each gun is different. Good luck.

I jumped them .013" from first touch using the Hornady gage.

Start at .010 off the lands and you will be close. I am shooting them in 3 different rifles and ended up at .005 off the lands in my 6BR which tightened them up considerably, and shooting them at .010 off the lands in my 6 Dashers. Great bullet and at least in my experience they like a jump and don't need much work to tune.

I use them in a dasher with 3 different barrels. I jumped them from .060 too .015 in and they shoot in .200 @ 100 till i went in. From .008 too .012 in,it shot in the .080- .090 range. These are spun on the Juenke and trimmed and pointed. Two powders worked RL-15 and H4895 and cci 450's. They flat hammer at 1K and are very consistent...... jim

Mine loves .020 jump with RL15. I have jammed them before with good results. That's the great thing about the hybrids, there really not that sensitive to seating depth.

I don't see where they are not sensitive to seating depth, if .200 across the board is good but .080 is great....jim

Hi Allen,,,as you can see from the various responders....results may vary...these guns are just like wimmin...they will tell you what they LIKE.!!!..we just gota be smart enuff to listen....try 3 or 4 jammed around .010" and 3 or 4 jumping .040" ...you should see immediate difference....I am beginning to think it is more the powder rather than the bullet that determins the need/reason to jump the bullet??!!.....Roger

Had no luck with Hybrids anywhere in the lands with a Brux 0.236 land, 4-groove barrel, Varget. Tried w both CCI 450s and Federal match primers. Chambering is 6BRDX, sort of a slightly longer-neck Dasher. Still need to experiment jumping, but my 105 Scenar Ls are shooting so good .012" forward of first touch measured with Hornady tool, that it's hard to get motivated to do more testing. The Scenar Ls are incredibly consistent in weight, base to ogive.

I have two rifles that love the Hybrids .050 off the lands.

I to have never had luck on or in the lands with any of my rifles. It always seems I end up somewhere around .010 off to .050 off and I always test up to .080 off the lands. I just happen to try some earlier this year .050 off the lands per a friends recommendation. Well it worked!

I was shooting my 284 with Hybrid 180's .050 off with great results this weekend. I does seem my 6mm's like to be a little closer to the lands vs my larger caliper rifles.

However, I love the Hybrids after getting use to them.

Just load up a few and see what your gun likes. Start .010 off and go out to .080.

My BR's & BRX love the SMK 107's kissing the lands, so I am sticking with this bullet for these two rifles.

MY 30's and 7mm's like Hybrids.

Two of my barrels are Brux .236 bore 7.83 twist, 2 Kreigers .237 bore 7.75 twist and 2 Bartleins one 4 groove .237 bore and a 5 R .237 bore both are 8 twist. all shoot the same load... only thing in common is the reamer. All shoot the 105 H and DTAC115's. Three different actions and 2 different stocks, all can shoot 3" 5 shot groups and 5", 10 shot groups. I am starting to believe that the reamer determines the load in the Dasher...... jim

Tom, I use a slip fit case to start, then no ejector and a big magnifier light. never had any luck with that other stuff....... jim

Tom, At the national, you would have seen me pulling them out with my fingers in the heavy gun.Really does wonders for the group size... like big, very big..LOL..jim

Tom, the sad part it had a ejector that wasn't working right and it was flipping them backwards in the action......jim

Allan, You will be fine, get the best powder charge then move the seating depth. Do one thing at a time, and never assume anything.....jim

I went from 15 in the lands to 20 off and it made a huge difference. Switched from N-540 to Varget too. Both powders shot well at 20 off but from what I've heard Varget is less sensitive. I'm back on track with the load now.

Thanks to everyone for answering this post.

Allan.
