105 hybrid vs the VLD's

Now that the hybrid has been out for a bit, is it really better than the 105/8 VLD's for 600 yards?

I'm about to order my dasher reamer. Just curious as I am still not settled on all of my dimensions.

That seems to be the consensus. Both work well in my Dasher's .104" freebore.

I shoot both 105 hunting vlds and hybrids fine out of a .136 FB Dasher. Haven't shoot the hybrids at 1k yet, but 100 yard testing looks extremely promising.

What would you guys recon the optimal twist to be? I have a 1-7.5" waiting to be chambered. Would like it in a Dasher shooting either of the above bullets.

I just started with a 8-1 barrel to see but my 7.8-1 shot .2 and 5" at 1K. I will test a lot more but i don't see a bit of difference, but the pressure will be higher in the 7.5 maybe........jim

Bryan Litz told me that he designed it for an 8" twist @2800. Your 7.5 will work fine. These are precision bullets and a few extra RPM will not bother them.

I also went to the range today with my 6BR at 300. The load is 105 Hybrids at ~2930. It was a little breezy ahead of the storm this weekend but there was readable mirage, for a change. Sadly, that is a nine to the right. There is about .005" of white showing. :(

Steve,

Nothing wrong with that target. All horizontal due to the wind and no vertical. That's what you want to see.

And here I've been trying to put them all in the X ring! ;)

This whole time I have been winning and I didn't even know it!

It sounds like I'm the exception but I have shot over 700 of the 105 Hybrids from two different lots in three different barrels and have yet to get them shooting better than the 105 Target VLD . I tried them in a non-sanctioned 600 yd. BR match right after New Years and all my targets showed a lot of vertical. I have 500 left and am trying to decide if I want to sell them or keep working with them. All my barrels have been 8" tw. cut rifled barrels ...maybe a slighty faster twist would work better . I dunno .

Like Dave, I was shooting Wolf KVB-5.56M today. Since I had been using H4895 successfully with VLD loads, that's what I used here. You might try a slightly faster powder or carefully up the load. My testing has found the 105 Hybrid requires ~.4-.5 grains more powder to restore the tune and velocity. My loads are also going from .012 jam to .030 jump (on this load), which accounts for some of the pressure reduction. The Hybrid also has a shorter bearing surface than the VLD. Try .1 grain increases and see if that restores accuracy.

I shot 105 Hybrids out of a 6 Dasher with 8 twist bartline barrel using RL15 and CC1 450's. My best 5 shot group at 500 yards had about 0.31 inches of vertical. My ladder showed 2 distinct nodes one around 3020fps another around 3075. I had a fishtailing tail wind that I shot through, I held center for the test as I was mainly trying to tune for vertical.

Velocities for this group were;
3079
3077
3077
3084
3085
