105 Hybrid Lot Variation

So measuring my ogive on my 6SLR, lot# 4019 measures 2.265 and lot# 6111 measures 2.256. This is where the ogive touches the lands. I've measured multiple bullets, multiple times and consistently get these measurements with my modified case. My question...... .009 difference on the ogive? I get the variation in OAL of the bullet between lots, but ogive? I'd think match bullets would be alittle more consistent. Input?

the more you load ammo the more you learn why you dont mix lot ###'s,,,there is a very valid reason,,,not only can they vary dimensionally but the jacket and core material can be thicker/harder/tuffer all which changes things,,,,Roger

totally agree, but just started doing load development, didn't want to order 1500 bullets, that may or may not shoot well in my gun

Jr. ,,,,you cant stop shootin when you run outa bullets,,,,they will do fine once you get seating depth worked out,,,what ever worked with the old lot will be a good place to start,,,I think jam or jump depends more on the type/ammount of powder used than the bullet type/brand ,,,,Roger

Same subject, different bullet. I have 2 lots of a small custom bullet company that doesn't number their lots. One lot has .040 more bearing surface than another. Is this a problem? Well, not for me as I shoot the "longer" bullets later in the barrels life. I track my throat erosion and try and keep a .012 jam with these bullets. When I buy direct from the mfg. I try and get the middle of the run and buy enough at one time for the life of the bbl. If I see a deal that someone wants to sell some of these at a discount, I buy them and see where they fall in the big picture. Is this method ideal? I don't know, but it is working for me.
I hope this helps,
Lloyd
