105 gr bullets in a 1:10 twist?

Wondering if anyone has a recipe for success? Have 1:10 twist 6 BR and a trade put me in possession of 300 Hornady 105 gr miz of A-Max and HPBT and access to 100 rounds of Norma 105 gr Diamond. Trying to decide if it is worth get a faster twist barrel to use them.

Speed alone won't do it. 95s are the heaviest for the 6mm. Elevation would stabilize it but you'd need alot of it.

I did well with the old 107 Sierra in the .244 AI 1-10 but you really had to step on the Gas.

A Berger 105 Hybrid Target has a sea level SG of 0.912 with a 1:10 twist so I would suggest you don't count on anything close to a 105 in that twist. It takes an 1:8 for a typical 105. A 1:10 is better with 60 to 80 grain bullets.

I can't guess if it is worth a bbl for just a few hundred, but if that number were like two or three thousand then it would be worth it for me. If you are just interested in giving the 105s a try, then I would say go for it.

Yeah 6mm is sensitive to twist because it’s hard to get high velocity with a 105gr unless you have a 29-30” barrel. Definitely want around 8 twist for the best all around accuracy.

I have an old 6mm Remington with an 11 twist barrel and 85-90gr is about as heavy a bullet as it will shoot with decent accuracy. Tried 105 Bergers and they were definitely unstable and making oblong holes in the target. Of course horrible accuracy as well

When my wife had her 243 Win, i got a good deal on some 105 Hornady Match bullets.
I called Hornady and asked if they would stabalize in her 1:10 twist.
I got an imediate "no".
Since i had run out of the other bullets for her rifle, i loaded some up over RL26.
No stability issues out to 500 yards. Nice clean holes.
Our elevation is 1,600 (+/-).

To james and the OP, there are many variables in the stability issue, length, weight, plastic tip, etc. You also have regions of unstable, marginally stable, and I think berger calls it comfortably stable. As an example, I have a 243 with a 1-9 twist. It shoots terrible with 107 sierras (unstable), great with 105 Amax (but most likely marginally stable, and the plastic tip making it act like a shorter bullet. Not achieving maximum BC) and the 90 berger shoots great too (comfortably stable and achieving full BC benefit.) All that said, You may be able to get a 105 match to marginally stablize in the 1-9, but I'd bet against the 1-10 twist. Higher speed will help, Higher alititude will help, Lower bullet weight will help... all a little bit. An inch(more likely two) of twist will help a lot and eliminate any question about the stability of the heavies. I love the old Amax bullets, because they shoot great in my rifle, and they would stablize when others wouldn't. But again it was marginal, and when I rebarrel my 243 it will be with a 1-8 twist. good luck with whatever you try out. John

An 8 is probably a better idea. Altitude matters a lot, but a 10 is really on the edge. In my experience, twist calculators (whether it’s Miller or the full math) are a little on the conservative side.

i tryed 1/10 . mine would be less than 3/8 moa with 87gr or lighter . 90gr and above would shoot
1.moa or bigger. shelin was a great barrel i could shoot 87 gr. bergers @600yards 2.1/4 to 3.1/2
if the wind wasn't to bad. this barrel shot low 1's @ 100yds. 105's good in a 1/8 maybe 1/9.

I tried some 105 AMAX's out of Rem 700 Varmint with a 1-9.25" twist, shot sub moa at 600yds but couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at 1K, guys in the pits said the bullets had a weird whizzing sound as they went by.
