105 Berger Hunting VLD

I have taken 4 whitetail, and a couple coyotes, with these now and they seem to be a very good bullet. Not sure what your looking for as far as performance, but these bullets work very well, you just not going to get a "show" like you would with a v-Max, varmint grenade, or similar.

Hope this helps!

John

I would also like to know about the terminal performance - such as how much pelt damage to expect on a coyote/how large of an exit on broadside shot, etc.

Thank you,
Ken

Thanks John. I'm just wanting them to fall on the spot, not run a ways afterward. I could care less about fur damage. On coyotes, my 65 vmax load for my 6WOA, flattens em. No exits. I was just curious what to expect from the Bergers.

This little 'yote was shot with a 115 gr Berger VLD from my .25-06, at about 160 yards or so. The off-side was ripped wide open with much destruction. I've also taken three mule deer with the 115 gr .257" bullet, with very good results at 175, 230, and 400 yards. Exits are not common on the mule deer.

Sorry - didn't take a photo of the other side... Large exit wound.

Not the same bullet you were asking about, but perhaps close enough for some reasonable comparison?

I've shot a handful of coyotes with the 95 VLD out of a 6 Dasher. Small exits on broadside shots. One shoulder shot was a little messy. No experience on deer, but I wouldn't worry......

Ive shot a few coyotes with the 105 hunting vld and they all had an exit about the size of a quarter and the largest was a frontal shot on a sitting coyote at 200yds that left about a silver dollar size hole. Thats about it though. Nothing bigger. I punching them with a 6slr.

I have shot lots of deer and some jackrabbits with these out of my 6mm-284. From what I have seen I do not think I would want to hunt pelts with these bullets but they sure do kill deer real fast but do leave large exit wounds golf ball size is about normal. The jacks I have shot with them make a splat sound and some just come apart like water balloon.

I too have had impressive success with them on deer. Jacks, they just "splode"! They are my go-to bullet for most critters in ND.

I used the Berger 115 VLD Hunting bullet on opening day of deer season in western Nebraska last year. The wind was terrible in the sandhills that day, blowing between 20-30 mph along the Wyoming border. A medium body seven point whitetail deer appeared along the treeline downhill from me at 385 yards (Leupold rangefinder). The bullet entered the shoulder and passed through just missing the other shoulder. He ran approx 40 yards and expired. Nice thing about a 25-06 is I actually saw the deer kick when hit.

Upon cleaning it was clear the bullet did some massive damage. To be honest I had my doubts about the VLD being tough enough, but this bullet delivered high end performance at long distance. Very impressed.
