105 A-max....Jump em or jam em??? 6BR

hey guys, the 6br ive always been dreaming about is finally finished and im going to pick it up tomorrow. The rifle was a trued Rem 700 that had a shilen select match barrel chambered in 223wssm. the barrel was shot out in just over 400 rounds. so i bought a Bartlein 1-7.5" twist with the 5R rifling.

sadly, im still waiting on my lapua brass to show up. Im planning on using the 105 amax because the .224 75gr amax has been so good in my 223 beyond 600 yards.

im kind of assuming the the Amax wont need to be jammed like the VLD bergers often do, since it doesnt have a very secant ogive. But, id like to hear what kind of experience you guys have had with this bullet.

BTW, i am going to begin my load development with Lapua brass, H4895, and CCI BR4s.....

thanks, hows the savage shooting them? which model is it?

i bought the LRPV when they first came out. thats why i got the 223. it shoots the 75s like a house on fire.

i almost bought another one in 6br with the 8 twist, but i decided it would be best to just have my rifle rebarreled.

Did a test with mine just yesterday. Ran em (Jumped Em) as deep as .060 and best results were at just off lands & 0.010 jump. Anything more way they would would not group near as tight. Jammin did not have good results either.

Yup jump em is the way to go. I'm running them in my savage model 12BR over 31 grains of varget and cci450 primers jumping about .010"

How does it shoot you might ask?

Well I entered my first competition this weekend with it. The Iowa State 1000yard IBS shoot and won in the varmit class. I shot a 49 3X with a little over a 7 inch group.

It was a blast met some great people and think I am freaking hooked now! Got the wife talked into going to Missouri with me next month for another 1000 BR comp, should be a blast!

wow man! that's awesome. post some pics of your rig if you can. are you using the target accu-trigger?

Every rifle is different. Give em what it likes. If accuracy is good when jumping, keep doin it. I only shoot the 105 A Max in a factory Cooper 6mmBR eight twist. That gun likes them jammed .010". You need to experiment.

alright. ive got to show off some pics of it.

The bolt was jeweled, but was getting pretty ugly, so i decided to go a head and polish it out. it looks a lot better...

once i get some brass, we'll see how she shoots. until then, i'm going to bed the action (Leroy would have done the bedding job, but i enjoy doing what i can within my abilities) and put the Jewel trigger back in it. oh, and ive gotta get the Leupold 8.5-25 LR target scope back on it.....

I fireformed BRX Brass with them jammed about .020" (with false shoulder). I shot them prone @ 200 yards and was duly impressed with the nice little knot they shot. BTW they were moly'd. I plan to try them at 600 yards, although with their longer bearing surface you may not be able to get the speed of a 107 Sierra or 105 Berger without pressure.
