105 A-Max for groundhogs

Anyone using the 105 A-Max for groundhogs?

If so, what is your opinion of them as a groundhog bullet?

I've used Both the 87 Gr V-max & got very good results to over 700yds..Then on steel I used the 105gr Amax to 1000 yds..Either wt or style choice, weigh out your bullets [load & sort] for best results...mike in ct

They are great bullets in my opinion, I used them in a 6mm slr for groundhogs and crows it made a mess of them.

Great choice of bullet especially for long range work on chucks. I don't get what Mr majestic does but I do get an honest 3000 with the straight 243. At 800 + yards expansion isn't like a ballistic tip but goes in 243 and comes out half dollar but stops them well. I love them in 6.5 as well.

I like them better than the Sierra 107...they tend to open better. Still leery of bullet bounce...I use them in a 6BR

Where I shoot ghogs, that isn't really a concern as most if not all shots are on a hill side. Once they hit a hillside almost at a 45° angle, they do fragment immediately. Sierras, Berger's, Scenars and Amax's are all good stuff for groundhogs in 6mm and up. I'm sure there good in .22 as well. Never used them for hunting or shooting game in 22. Love Ballistic tips in 55 grain and under for the 22s.

I'm shooting a 26" with Nosler brass, Win lg primers under 44 gr of 4831sc. 95 bergers seem to do much better with the 9 twist tube.

Nice velocity AB. No doubt I could push more but the primers look real purdy and with anything requiring fire forming case life is a premium. Got 5 reloads now and primers still feel good. I believe the cartridge guides show a guy getting 3400 using RL25 and a longer tube. Accuracy is real good were I am so I just quit.

I run them jammed and the Criterion match chamber runs 2.795" COAL. The standard Criterion chamber is .05" less.

That would be a yes, they will fit. I get 2.850 in my HS mags. Trying to find some mags I can fit 2.950 loaded ammo in.

28" 8tw Criterion, Lapua case, H4831 and a BR-2.

I'm shooting 24-26 barrels non improved cases and am pretty satisfied with the velocities. Would love to get what your seeing in speed but hard to complain with the accuracy I'm achieving as well. Maybe the next chamber will be an improved version.

LRBR and LR steel = Berger. Dogs = 105 A-MAX. I tried lighter V-MAX's but they don't hold together for me in an 8 twist. I find the A-MAX much more explosive on dogs than the 105H/108BT's. Is far as ricochet.....as long as thy don't come back toward me IDC!!
