105-107gn bullets in 9' twist

I have been offered a 9" twist 6mm barrel,might be 8.5" twist but hes not sure)which I was hoping to turn into a 6-6.5x47. I was wondering if anyone has tried 105-107gn 6mm bullets in a 9",or 8.5") twist? I know Berger suggests an 8" twist, but they are supposed to be conservative. has anyone actualy tried this combination with any sort of success?

Good with Berger 105 BT,not the VLD), maybe with the 108's too, Hornady 105 A-Max will be fine.

You did not mention at what distances you will be shooting.
I have found a 9 twist with w/105-107 gr. bullets is good to 800 yds., beyond that they begin to tumble.

It will be for F class, out to 800 yds, maybe 1000yds max. It is 32" long,,but 31" after rethreading),and pretty heavy,good for our weight regulations. I was hoping to shoot the 105 Lapuas and Bergers at 6-6.5x47 velocities. I wasnt sure if the added velocity of the 6-6.5x47,over the 6BR) would maybe help get over the slower than optimum twist. I will try to check the barrel out and see if it is 9" twist or 8.5" before I buy it. It sounds like the 9" twist will be limited with suitable bullet selection.

I would bet they will work ok. If not, go with the non-VLD Bergers or the 105 AMax as has already been said. Hopefully your barrel will like them.

I was able to get the 107 sierra mk to stabalize in a 9.25 twist factory savage 243 win barrel, without problem.

Sounds good. I have measured the twist and it seems like it might be an 8.5" twist, so 107gn bullets will be no problem. I might even be able to use the new 111gn or 115gn bullets by the sound of it.

I have bought the barrel now, but have decided it will be going on my Rem 700 hunting rifle instead of my target rifle. I am putting in an order for a new 8" twist barrel to give me more options with heavy bullets for my target rifle.
