103 Vaper Trail

I have 500 103 Vaper Trail Bullets . Not wanting to test to many of them $$$ .
Rifle 6 Norma Dasher.

Jump or In the Lands ?

Thanks for any input ,
Don

Not all barrels like the same seating depths but with that being said, all of my dasher barrels preferred to be seated into the lands generally between .005 to .010. My barrels were all .237 bore, 8twist Krieger's. You should test however because some of the fellows that I compete against at Williamsport, their barrels preferred to be jumped, some as much as .040. I generally start at .010 in then at .008 in then at .oo6 and then .004. Then I start at .005 off and go in .003 thousandths increments until I'm .020 off, that is usually enough to find a depth that your barrel prefers. All this is done after you determine which powder and charge weight your barrel prefers. If the Vapor Trails shoot well for you and I'm certain they will, you might want to order a few more to go win some hardware with. :) Best of luck......Chuckhunter...…..Chuck Loebsack

Chuck, Thanks I have a 5R 1-7.5 Krieger ( Obermeyer). It likes 105 HB in .008 to just off ?
I will use your info. Thanks, Don

Don, Vapors are good bullets. I shoot them in.004. You will need to accurately determine your exact touch point. I highly recommend the Alex Wheeler method. He has vid’s on YouTube. All of my current barrels are .236 Kreigers, all 8 twists. As previously mentioned, you might want to call Tom and get some more.

I run them a lot further in the lands than what others have posted here - like .018" to .022" depending on the barrel/ reamer. Regardless of where you end up, you could consider at least rough tuning withe the VT-TAC. They are cheap, readily available & a great bullet. The dies were made to the same geometry as the VT103, so while they aren't going to be identical, they should be pretty close. In my two barrels (BRA and 6BR) so far, what the TAC likes, so does the original.

First my Norma Dasher is using the Norma Reamer in 2 -1/7.83 .236 Brux barrels. Spent a season shooting and tuning just about every bullet and powder I could lay my hands on with some success . First pic is vapor trails at 400 yds and is now my 600 yd load . I am chasing .006 jamming as round count goes up.32.5 Of Varget..Primer pockets are still good after 5 firings.
At 1000 yds the 103 VT’s opened up for my barrels(tested on targets at Deep Creek)so more testing and found 108 Berger BT’s carefully sorted shoot very well. Also .006 in. For the Ranges I have shot so far 32.4-32.7 Varget is my powder window. Much more and ... Norma brass doesn’t like it. Best of luck!810B23AA-2DB8-40E2-8160-1880C3947139.jpeg

Not to good at photos yet but the 108’s repeat In the 3” groups at 1000 a first and for me..
Many said don’t do it but the extra work made it fun With winning 1 Target light gun high score at the NBRSA 1000yd Nats . And a repeat win in HG at Deep Creek in June.
The Norma Dasher will shoot and I think I’m on to the brass’s consistency...just got to prove it on paper
Best of luck Don
