1010 yard kill

Just returned from 4 days shooting in SD. Lowest numbers we’ve seen in this area, forced a lot of shots over 400 yds. Spent some time on a large town and killed numerous dogs over 700 yds. After many years (and rounds) of trying, I finally made the 1000 yard club with this kill at 1010 yds. Took three shots. 6BR, 87 grain v-max at 3150 fps. 340 inches of drop.

Congrats on the accomplishment. That's a helluva good shot. I suppose you were aiming at it's head?
Of course, only head shots count, right? :D
At first I was a bit surprised that that bullet appeared to sail right through with no expansion, but according to ballistics calculator it slowed to about 1170 fps at that point. I had the NXS 12-42 at about 36x and could see it fall over, but thought there would be more damage. DRT…

I was out last week. To much rain mirage was horrible by 10:00. Got out early and it was chilly and damp, very little activity.
Numbers were not what I expected most towns had moved a long way as well and no way to access them. Our close shots were 200, one morning I managed to go to around 500.

Congratulations on the 1010 pdog shot.
Outstanding!
I'm gonna try the 87 vmax in my 6br. If I can get it to shoot I'll be using it.
Tell us about your rifle.
Savage 12 LRPV (left port right bolt single shot) converted to 6BR with PTG bolt head, 28” 8 twist Criterion barrel. Witt machine brake. NXS 12-42x56 on a 20 MOA rail. Getting single digit SD’s with Varget and CCI 450’s.

I did/accomplished something similar at 520 yds with a 223 shooting a 55g tipped varmageddon bullet. I was using Kentucky windage/elevation, critter just fell over DRT. The 55g just penciled right thru it, and did kick up a bit of dust on exit. No expansion either.

Well done sir! And in three shots, that's a real accomplishment. I joined the 1000yd club a few years ago, but mine took shots in the double digits..... A few of us went out last weekend. We got into a nice number of dogs and had nice weather.

How do you get the range on something so small?
Good question. That and the scope power and clarity was a problem in the past. Last year I bought the Vortex Fury HD 5000, mainly chosen for the fair price point and being the only one that has lifetime warranty on the electronics. I have been extremely impressed, ranging mounds and small objects out to 1500+ yds. Large and reflective out to 2500+. They are fantastic.
NXS 12-42x56 was also an improvement, but I’d like to try a 60x60 some time.
