I have been using staball 6.5 with this combo, was using the 95gr vmax and a4350 and it was okay that combo got me 3550fps. I like the 100gr eldvt better fits the longer freebore in my prc better. I'm running 3525fps and it is reasonably accurate. Hornady is listing data for the 100gr eld-vt on their app now. If you can get rl26 it would probably give you best velocity and case fill, but hybrid100v, a4350, magpro, staball 6.5, superformance, and n560 are all listed for top velocity. When I ran it through quickload rl26 was the top powder.Has anyone been playing around with this bullet and cartridge combo? If so what powder have you found best fit. I’d love to push them around 3500 fps to wreak havoc on coyotes!
Let us know what you end up with on the new bullet with Varget. Thanks .Sorry You haven't had any response as of yet to your question. I just bought some and loaded them for 6.5 Creedmoor and I hunt Coyotes in Idaho so wide-open areas are common. I have had the 95gr V-max bullet all last year and really liked them for Coyotes as them do a great job of putting them down. I slowed them down with 40grs of Varget and they shoot really consistent at 3000fps. The 100 gr ELD-VT are a new design, and higher BC so should serve me better. I'm reaching out to that 400 yds with a Thermal scope and that's quite a poke from a tripod at night. I look forward to hearing how you do with them in your 6.5 PRC
I found a YouTube video that shows numbers, etc for the 6.5 PRC with 100 gr ELD-VT. Elchupagoat is the guy who posted it. You'll like it as it addresses your question. He got good SD and ES with the Garmin, however I can't say I was impressed with his groups of the loads. He did get crazy velocities but not that accurate of groups on any of the loads. I did get some 6.5creedmoor loads with the 100 eld-vt and I found really good sub-moa groups with 41.5grs Varget powder 3190fps however the es and sd (7.4) where just OK... Then at 42.5grs Varget, 3284fps, great sd (4.3) and terrible groups... So maybe the good es and sd isn't the best with higher velocity as the accuracy is forfeited. My barrel is a 20" Proof Carbon Fiber 1:8 twist. Suspicious that with the higher velocities stabilizing is more difficult???Let us know what you end up with on the new bullet with Varget. Thanks .
Thanks for posting this! I’m on the hunt for a new cartridge or at least another barrel for a thermal/NV setup on my backup rig. I’ve got a NOCPIX Ace s60r on my 22BR that drops my holdover within the scope, but on my backup scope I want to put something together that is very flat shooting as to be able to hold minute of coyote from 175 yards to as far past 300 as possible without changing my point of aim. I’ve been looking into 25-06 ackley as I’ve got a couple 257s, but have several 6.5 PRCs already. I’ve got a Bartlein 6.5mm 8.5 twist barrel sitting around I might chop it down and build it around a dummy round with the 100gr ELD-VT. Would you mind sharing your load data and specs of your barrel and twist, seating depth? I like the 20-22” barrel length for night hunting w/suppressor. I want something that is flat and will also buck a bit of the E Idaho wind and will put this on a heavier chassie as to have more weight to not be blown around as much as my other setups which are on the MDT HNT chassis and MDT CRBN stocks.Exit on both, rib shot was 160 a neck was 180 im loving this for coyotes. Im getting ready to do a 24inch rig to try for deer.
My scope height is 2.6 inches with my TH50 an at 3580 fps with my elevation I have my Zerod at 270yds i know sounds weird. But gives me flat trajectory to 300 yds. Between 0 an 270 highest it shoots is 1.88 at 180yds an 1.29 low at 300yds. My recticle moves anyways but flatter the better. Im at roughly 1000 elevation most time. I wanted something flat as my 22 Creedmoor but more thump an boy does it thump! Thanks for posting this! Hey thanks so much for the information. I’ve got a 6.5 PRC custom rifle from H&H precision I never ever shoot in a bull barrel at 26” I might just chop that barrel down to 20-22” and see if it will shoot. Do you have a SAAMI chamber or shorter free bore?60.3 in 24inch Proof Research 7.5 twist Lapua Brass Gold Medal Match Magnums. I got up to 3670 an was under an inch but backed down an like the tighter group better
SAAMI on both. Have a friend built a 6 PRC hes having pretty good luck with H1000 an 4831sc with 95 sierras. I will say this is only thing ive loaded at book length thats where its gotten best accuracyHey thanks so much for the information.
