100gr Barnes TTSX .257 Cal Hunt Results

Shot a medium sized doe Friday with my .257 Weatherby Mag and the Barnes 100gr TTSX bullet. Was my first time using a Barnes bullet. Picture perfect heart lung broadside shot at 275 yards. The doe walked off and went about 30 yards into the woods, laid down and died. The blood trail was not impressive at all, the bullet did go through but the exit hole was not much bigger than the entry hole. I was surprised, the week before I shot a nice 8 point with a .308 and 125gr Hornady SST bullet that was much more devastating, massive blood trail and only took a few steps. Not sure I am sold on Barnes bullets, My bullets of choice (Accubond) are all sold out so I thought I would try these Barnes, so far not impressed. I will try a few more.
My son and I have shot a pile of deer with Barnes. 25-05 with 115 gr, 7-08 with 120ttsx, 270wsm with 140 and 110 TTSX. We love the way they perform. No need to aim for bone, etc. Shoot them like any other bullet. Sometimes they go 30-50 yds, but easy to find, and other times drop in their tracks. I love the fact that I can shoot them at any angle and know that I will get the penetration I need. Your experience sounds like the bullet did a great job, 30 yds and died. No bullet will drop them in their tracks everytime.

If you shoot an animal with a nice layer of fat, they sometimes leave no blood trail, even on nice pass thru.
I experience this a lot on southern michigan deer. Fat, thick fur "seal" up a hole pretty well. I use a 44 mag rifle and blood trails arent very common. Thankfully I can usually watch them drop 30-40yds later anyway.

I understand that, so is a broadside shot through the lungs not the preferred shot with a Barnes bullet? In your experience the on shoulder shot obviously works.
Yes, I shoot the 130 gr 30 cal in 308. I have also seen the video and stills from deer shot by my buddy using a 6x45 and the 80 grain ttsx. One hit to the shoulders and chunks of venison, hair and blood on the tree behind the deer convnced me. I also saw him on video pop a nice deer with a 22 caliber from a 220 Redline (3900 fps) TSX. Made a mess of that deer, which went about 30 yards and piled up. The TTSX erforms outiside the weightclass.

I use the 100 gr tsx in my 257 wby. I have shot whitetail at 100yard to 655. Have only had one walk more then 2 steps. Bullet is running 3550 fps it does a great job for me
