1000 yards

i have an opportunity to shoot 1000 yards in a couple of weeks with my .223.i'm getting 2800 fps with 75 amax,i'm aware i wont be competitive but do you guys think it will stay stable to 1000 ? by my reckoning it should just make it.
any advice appreciated

Amax 75 grainers claim a BC of .435. That may or may not be true, probably closer to .400. But even so, as long as they don't go sub-sonic they should make the distance. But you'll need the atmospheric data that bayou shooter inquired about to make that judegment. Do you have 40 MOA in your scope? The .223 will need something in the range of nearly 400 inches to work with at 1K. But don't be discouraged. 1K is fun, even when you miss. If you get all of them on paper (that includes target backing paper) at 1K you're doing just fine.

Well, the reason I was asking about elevation and temperature is that I used to shoot the 75 A-Max at 1000 yard, right about that velocity. It worked ok in Texas in the summertime, but when it got to about 40 degrees or less, they were coming in subsonic. They did not tumble or anything but they were very quiet.

The OP is talking about November here and it will really depend where he shoots.

temperature is about 12c at the moment but i would expect it to be colder by then.and i have plenty of elv on the schmidt pm2 my ballistic cal says -36.1 moa (377.6") like i say it shot great at 800 (-23.4 moa -196.3") but i can't believe how much it drops over the last 200.

Good luck, I watched a guy shoot all day at Grayling and most of the time he wasn't hitting the target. I would bet that the 75 g bullet is to light to fair well, I would suggest using the 80-82 g bullet if your twist will stabilize it. No matter it's a hoot to shoot at 1,000, again good luck.

thanks palarson i hope the wind will be kind and i'm going expecting nothing but just for the experience it would be fun.brass is all prepped and i'm just off to see yoda to learn how to use the force.we all have to start somewere
