1000 yard shooting at camp perry

Everything you can think of but I see mostly 300 Win mag., 6.5-284, and 7mmRSAUM. You will also see a lot of .308s and 6mms of various case designs. But it seems like the belted magnums have lost favor in the last few years, mostly due to recoil I think. As for builders, everybody has their own favorite 'smith. The Armed Forces shooters have their own 'smiths, I build a few, Alan Warner builds some, John Whidden is a favorite among many, and I'm sure someone else will chime in with other builders.

I have been shooting either a 6xc or a 284Win, both done by B. Clowdis. I suspect there are several of those cartridges out on the line too. Both work really well and dont require anything special, easy to get to work and can do double duty elsewhere.

At the top of F-Open, most of what you see is either the parent case or some variation of 280 Remington, 284 Win, 7mmRSAUM and 7mm/300or270WSM shooting 180 grain bullets. Also, a few people are having great results with 300 WSMs and the big Bergers, but the recoil does have to be managed with the 30s more so than the 7mms. The range safety template for Connaught has limits for combinations of MV and bullet BC which may lead to different solutions as the 2017 Worlds get closer.

Guess we should clarify on whether the OP is talking sling or F class.....for obvious reasons, the answers are going to vary somewhat. Guess I never though he was talking F class when he mentioned Perry. OP, please be a bit more specific and I am sure you will get some good answers that are relevant.

F-Class is new at Perry in just the last couple of years; but I think you will see a lot more F-Classers at both the Mid-range Nationals and Long Range matches now that the F-Class Worlds are behind us

I shoot sling with the .300 WSM and have had good results with it. Metal work by Warner Tool Co, and Stock work by Alex Sitman at Master Class stocks. It likes the 220 and 210 gr. Sierra and the 210 gr. Berger VLD.

AR-10 NM... ;) Well I have to, but better than the M14!

The military team members that aren't shooting SR, are shooting 308 Palma, a few 300WM ( the Marine team shot a .300wm RPA range master this year... Nice rifle) and the AMU had great success with the 7mm RSAUM. Non mil teams I did see a few straight 260 and 243's as well. I didn't shoot the MR, just ATC and LR. It's a great time and you meet some good people.

I shoot long range at Camp Perry, my best results have been with a 280AI, I also shoot the 6XC, I havn't had that good results, but don't forget Tubb has won the long range several times with the 6XC. The big boomers are ok, but the recoil is massive and takes it's tole.

I'm a sling shooter also and I have been shooting an improved version of the 6.5x55 Swede called the 6.5 GWI. The barrel and receiver of your choice as well as a stock to fit YOU can all be had from Kelbly's Inc. BTW, the designed if the cartridge and the ONLY guy to chamber my barrels is Greg Walley who works for Kelbly's. Hence the name of the cartridge, GWI.
I hope this helps,
Lloyd
